I would personally times that by 50 before going L/P. Or.. or.... ORRRRRR... just keep saving those $1k's.... until you get about 250 of them, and look into O/O with the big boys (and no, I'm not one; still company after 20 years, by choice....(or chance?)

Freight is SOFT right now; has been for 2 years..... companies are PUSHING L/P's to pad THEIR pockets or.. just to stay afloat, imho.

Best to ya, either way. IMHO, you need a bunch more money and experience before even entertaining the thought of any type of 'ownership.'

I don't trash talk much unless it is well deserved. And I definitely don't trash talk former employers until someone else who worked for them does first. Even then, I just limit what i say to my opinion and state that it is just my opinion. Individuals are a different story. An individual does me wrong, especially stabbing me in the back, and its no holds barred.

Thanks, I appreciate that. As I said before, I'm merely just considering it. I have made a firm decision yet about that. I already know what lease means. I don't own the truck until it's paid. Which means I would be paying for repairs or fuel or other expenses on a company truck essentially. And that ain't gonna happen until I have all my other ducks in a row. Unless, by some magical stroke of luck that I get load after load after load of good long miles. Which ain't gonna happen most likely. Or I hit the lottery and can by my own truck straight out. In which case, I would have my own authority and everything thing else. All the company would be good for at that time would be a load board.

I empathize with your thoughts on this; but if Henderson goes 'south' from the 'get go' .... you might just wanna bite the upper lip for a little while with WEL, until you establish your footing. JMHO. You've gotta admit (unless you are unawares) that WEL is a dang good starter company for MANY of the souls that the Prime's, Wilson Logistics, and even Swift/Knight's brands of companies won't take, for one reason or another. (Correct me if I'm wrong, @Chinatown ?!?)

You ARE being given a chance, as Six says....don't take it for granted and for the love of Pete, don't Lease out the door.

Keep in mind that the thousands you have to put in the 'emergency' fund, should either of you terminate the lease, the 'emergency' is the title holder. 3K, 10K, no matter. Goes to the truck and what they 'think' it needs. Almost (if not?) always.

Anyway, I would really like to thank all of you for your opinions. I got enough out of it to make a feast for my mind. Still got slot of things to work out though. I still haven't got orientation setup, however, I still haven't let Western know that I applied for another company. I still work for them as of right now. What I am probably going to do is see if my DM can get me back to Nashville by this Friday. Me and him are gonna have a little chat about some things. If it all goes positive for me and Western I will probably stay. If not, I will leave. Would that be a good idea?

That had also crossed my mind. I'm not one to put money away to where I will never be able to get my hands on it again unless I satisfy the contract. That just gave me an idea. I will ask to see the contract and see what it says about that. If I don't like it, there goes that.

IMHO, yes. Not sure what issues you may (or may not?) have had going with WEL first, but they invested in you. Whether or not they paid your training matters not. Perhaps if they DO know you have an 'offer' on the table, they will actually step up their game~!

Are you doing flatbed with WEL? If not, JUMP to that. Hauling open decks can and will open MANY doors for you. Me, personally...did it a few winters when asphalt (tanks) doesn't flow..it was fine, but sure wish I were younger out the gate trying to learn securement.

I may catch some slack, but that's still where the money is. Ask some of the big boys (H/H guys and/or gals) and they ALL started flats somehow. Just a tidbit that might help you.

Don't jump ship without another one guaranteed to take you on board (literally and figuratively) and definitely don't jump ship because there's a 'floating dock' in the distance.

Keep us posted, Tomcat needs a nap, LoL.

Dollars to donuts.. emergency fund is GONE when lease terms. Either party. And not to the lessee, but to the lessor.

Now that I do think about it, leasing a truck ain't for me anyway. Leasing or financing a personal vehicle is a different story. So, leasing a truck is definitely out. At least until I have enough saved up to care for myself when I can't roll. While we are on leasing a truck, could I make early payments similar to a loan to buy a new car? It was just something that crossed my mind as having potential value later on after I get established and in a better position for such a major decision.
