Hello truckers. I have a GMC Savana Box truck rated no more than 12,000 gvw. I want to use this truck to get contracts from companies to deliver private property, general freight, and household goods (no moving). Correct me if I am wrong, I think I am considered a "for-hire" contractor. Ok. I recieved a call from progressive ins. This is the info I gave the agent:
Truck 12,000 gvw
Legal min liability $750k for MC authority
$10,000 cargo($5,000min)
100 mile radius interstate NJ-NY-PA
Lastly, personal info
The Agent also asked me if filings were required. I said yes, filings MCS-90, BMC 91,BMC 32, BMC 34.
The agent quoted me 715/yr for $10,000 cargo, I said fantastic, I will increase cargo coverage if liablility is affordable. Then the agent quoted me a total of $23k for both liabilty and cargo for just 6 months!!??Honestly, I was expecting to pay no more than 13k a year total. I have research average rates on this forum and truckers in person and most are paying 4-8 grand for 1mil/100k cargo for bobtails and similar box trucks. Im so confused. Granted my record isnt perfect, minor accident 4 years ago $200 in damages, no turn on red 5 years ago. I currently have no points. Did I give the agent the wrong info in regards to filings info? Need some advice. Sorry for the rant.
Quoted 46k/yr for 750k Liability 10,000 cargofor box truck??

Progressive has jumped stupid with their rates. Appearently Flo ain't cheap
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
Yea flo isnt cheap. Im thinking the agent accidently checked of hazardous materials or something along those lines.

Thanks for the response guys and tips. I think I see where I messed up. I told the agent I needed mcs 90 filings. According to FMCSA requirments only hazmat carriers are subject to mcs 90 filings. This most likely screwed up my quote. Will be back tomorrow after I call Progressive ins.

We go through royalty finance and insurance from Van Nuys ca.
They are obviously Brokers..
So far I've found 2 companies that have denied me loads due to having them..
Apparently Stevens transport has an unpaid claim 8 years ago lol and they won't give us any loads.... not that it matters.. Stevens transport rates suck.. and recently I found another company with the same story. Unpaid claim 8 years ago..
