Sorry for the lack of an update but we have been moving. The wife is a really good at driving down the highway. She's a natural defensive driver. Her backing on the other hand was terrible at first. She's coming along in that department now though. Knight is so over booked in freight right now that we are getting all the miles we can handle. It's actually a better deal for us. With her training pay and me getting paid all the miles we'd actually have to get 7800 miles in a week to make more getting team pay.

Picked up a load yesterday in SoCal and are delivering in San Antonio tomorrow

Dang man! I'm happy for you, had the knight recruiter call me yesterday for a position in their Fontana yard. Just barely got all my endorsements and my license last week out of trucking school. Just reading your experience has been giving me second thoughts of applying for them. :) Glad also that your training your wife and teaming with her, its an awesome combination! I'm following you on your journey! God bless!

Rizen, Gald Knight is working out for you and your wife. I have been with Kinght for 3 years sept. since i had moved to Texas. As you have said Knight is not the best company but also not the worst. I started out OTR when I was hired on. Did that for 11 months and the moved into a local postion kind of a gofor spot. I did general local, spotting on two diffrent dedicated accounts. At the start of this year I was on a new dedicated account for Nestle water that went from Pasadena TX to Hawkins TX back to Houston TX. Brand new day cab and overweight permits to boot! Good run and good money but long hours. We currently don't have that account any more for unkown reasons. I am currently back on our Macys account as a full time spotter but will be moving in the local driver postion in the next month or so when they can hire a replacment spotters. Good thread and read the whole thing. I would recommend Knight to most but it is what you make it. Having a good DM helps as well. As for the trucks, the idle policy is still in effect. I think it would be better if they installed APU's on the trucks. We should not be penelized for comfort. Just my opinion. Keep up the miles and the thread! be safe out there!

It's been crazy as of late. I'm still in a Knight truck. The wife, for now, isn't. She developed a medical problem that led to the need for surgery. She's doing fine but can't work for probably another month or so.

As for Knight, meh, same bull different truck number. When she got sick they started that one more load BS then when I'm finally about to get back to the yard they tell me to drop her off and keep running. Told them not happening because she gets dizzy so she shouldn't be driving, good thing, she was rushed into surgery the same day. I'm already planning are next move. Told Knight this was there audition and they have failed. Miles been erratic at best as well and if my truck isn't headed for a shop the trailer I'm pulling is.

Sorry to hear about your wife becoming ill. Best wishes for a full recovery.

I am scheduled to start training with Knight (Squire) in Phoenix Monday morning the 19th.

Hate news like this but I guess I have to start somewhere and I hear they are all , more or less, about the same. I hope I'm not making a big mistake

    :/

Sorry to hear about your wife's situation and your setback.

But 'some' DM's can be demanding and not understanding.

My own personal experience is following an 'on-duty' rotator cuff injury, having seen the 'Knight Ortho Doc' they insisted that I go to in Phx (I live in Tucson) who X-rayed me and scheduled me for an MRI which had a backup of 3 weeks, I only lost 1 day of work for that appmt but kept driving during the next 3 weeks. My appmt for the MRI was Mon morning at 9 AM, and my DM scheduled me loads on Fri to make it back to Phx in time for the appmt. Come Sat afternoon, a weekend DM from CA took my return load off of me without asking or communicating with me. Gave me a ConAgra back to Rancho for Sun afternoon drop...no live unload ever at ConAgra and I knew that!! And so I ended up w/o an MT Sun afternoon and spent much of the remainder of my hrs looking for one locally at the usual spots w/o any luck. I talked with the weekend dispatcher and told him my story and how I 'had' to get back to Phx by Mon morning---showed no concern for my plight and kept saying that I needed to find an MT to get a load back to Phx...at around 9 PM Sun evening while at the Fontana Yd, I asked for authority to bobtail back to Phx that night but was not given 'permission.' And so at 10 PM I said screw them and bobtailed back, having only enuf hrs to be legal while crossing the AZ scale!.

That morning, while sleeping in my tractor in the Knight yd in Phx, my DM called me in and was being pressured to fire me (at that time, I was a 3 yr loyal on-time freight, no incident/accidents driver!). Fortunately (for both me & Knight), my DM (one of the Knight 'boys' (cousins/sons)) just said dont do it again, as well as it would look bad for Knight to fire a driver with a work-related injury...as in trying to get out of their responsibilities..indicating grounds for a lawsuit against them.

So I understand your concerns and any outrage..hope the wife is doing OK and 'wants' to get back out on the road with you...OD
