TRKRSHONEY, Moosetek13, chompi and 1 other person Thank this. -
i was of the opinion that i would never PAY for radio...something i could get for free. then i worked for a company that provided xm radio, and from then on i could not live without it. talk shows, every kind of music you could think of, book channel, old radio drama channel, comedy channels.....all for a very reasonable monthly fee and all channels available nearly all the time, no matter where you are. no more switching channels every hour or two, no more (well, almost no more) dead spots. i recommend it without hesitation.
DocWatson and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -

XM XM XM! Couldn't do this job without it! Besides the fact that terrestrial radio is awful. I do 48 states and can't even get radio in a lot of places besides changing the station in every town. The only time my XM gets interupted is in a pass. I listen to talk shows, lots of sports, audio books, music, old radio shows, etc....
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Nailed it guys! Can't live without Satellite radio!!! Howard too! (kind of sucks over the holidays though because he isn't live) Satellite radio is actually a big part of why I look forward to my driving shift! Often there are really good shows on all at once! So now they have "On Demand"! This is really cool too! For those of you new to Satellite radio you will have to download the app for the "On Demand".
Besides Howard there are many other really good shows and stations. Just the past few months on the weekends on channel 116 they play all the real life murder mysteries like you see on Dateline and Dominick Dunne and such. They play all day Saturday and Sunday and repeat at night. Time fies when you are listening to a good murder story!
Ron and Fez is also a great show! I think its like channel 205 or something or maybe 105. Being from Florida there are some really good talk shows on in Orlando and they play them on 165. The Monsters and the Phillips Phile, really great shows. Then at night on 168 is "Coast to Coast"! George Noory is the man! Sometimes the show gets a little far fetched but often it is really, really good! If you are into UFO's, Conspiracy Theories, prophecies, big foot etc... this is the show for you! I often get a lot of good book recommendations off that show.
You also have the Trucker Channel, Traffic Channels, all kinds of sports channels etc... Then of course you have tons of unique music channels. Love it when they have live concerts!
Besides the Satellite radio I also listen to Pandora. This is an app for your phone in which you can program it to play any kind of music you want. It actually learns what you like and just plays automatically.
Iheart Radio is another really good app!
By far one of my favorite apps is the "Audible" app. Go to Audible.com and you will see what's all about. Basically its like books on CD except the play through your phone. You can either listen with your headphones or play through your truck radio. These aren't just crappy ol' books like you would rent at the TA! They are top notch, best sellers and up to date, really great books! Recently I listened to "No Easy Day", I can't stress enough how killer this book was! Its the real story of the Bin Laden Kill told by the actual Seal member who shot him! If you want the real facts, this is the book! I have listened to it literally 5 times already! I have also listened to the "Steve Jobs" book. This too was an excellent book!
There are several ways to listen and buy on their site. You can pay per book or you can sign up monthly and get a huge discount and be able to listen to as many as you want.
Recently I bought a really nice pair of Bose headphones and it makes all this sound really good. Since I team this enables me to listen to the radio at the volume I like. Not that I play it loud but sometimes books and talk shows are hard to hear on a low volume. The headphones just makes it sound clearer.
Entertainment in your truck has come a long way! Hell its come a long way just in the time I have been driving (and that's only 16 years). I can remember bringing a suitcase of cassette tapes with me to listen to. Eventually trading all of them in for suitcase of CD's! I also had a notebook of which was kept in order by state and had every radio station in the country listed! I can remember just about every 75-100 miles having to change the station!
AAAaahhhh, technology!!!Rugerfan and runawayload Thank this. -
I finally broke down and got XM. Buy your unit from Best Buy or some other electronics retailer. I got the Onyx and the auto hook up for $49... I saw it for $99 in one of the TS... Pilot I think, but not positive.

Ya, even Radio Shack or Walmart has them. You can get them online too! Pawn shops and Craiglist has some good deals on used ones too!
