I keep a 3.5 mm audio plug in the Front AUX but use the BT function and the radio goes into static mode when you disconnect the BT.

Speedy may be suggesting actually using the Front AUX plugged into your phone. I could see how that would eliminate the static as it would have no need to disconnect from the Bluetooth mode due to it not being connected to it in the first place.

Ah yes, I think you're right. I have a Google Pixel 2 so I don't have a headphone jack on my phone and I don't remember what I did with the adapter. Plus using Bluetooth means I can skip songs with the steering wheel controls anyways.
