On a couple of occasions people have responded
to others asking for a radio check by saying
"get or use your talkback" to tell how you sound.
This can't be more wrong. To test this just unhook
The coax at the antenna and key up and talk. Not
with amp on.
Radio check and talk back.

What !!! ???

R
by lessening to your talkback. -
Sounds like a few truckers tired of answering 100 radio checks a day. "That there reddio issa werk'n driva" is an all too common phrase.
Talkback = good for giving you a general idea of where to set the echo. Funny because some Galaxy radios have it standard in the radio but no echo. Guess having talkback is supposed to be a selling point eh? -
I didn't like talk back at first, thought it was stupid. Now, I like it. But if you use it to set the echo, you will be echoing more than what it sounds like on the talk back. And it doesn't mean you are transmitting just because you can hear yourself on the talk back!

Bad idea to key any radio without the antenna connected! Unless you have a 50 ohm dummy load hooked to it.
It probably would not kill a stock 4 watt radio but i would not do it. -
Short key up without power including internal amp is ok.
EZ Money Thanks this.
