My truck pulls containers out of the rail yard in Cincinnati. I'm leased on with another company but would like info on how to get my own rail authority and the income/expenses of it. I've heard it costs 10K per year for the authority alone.

    Thanks for your help.

I want to preface the following statement with the fact that I'm only a trucker's wife and I'm constantly learning about this industry myself :biggrin_2559:...but what I wanted to ask you was: Are you sure a railroad authority is what you need? You're not trying to operate a train/rail company so why would you need that? If you are looking to drive a truck under your own authority then a "carrier" authority would be what you would need. If you also want to broker your own loads you may want to look at getting a broker authority as well. Go to the dot website (couldn't post the link yet don't have enough posts), it should put you in the right direction.

A carrier and broker authority is only 300 a piece. You will also need to get the BOC-3 if you plan on getting your carrier authority, which allows your company to be served w/ any possible legal action in every state.

I hope this helps you. Then again, you may be talking about something all together different. If this doesn't help, I apologize for interjecting myself into your inquiry:biggrin_25524:. Let us know how it goes and what you find out!
