Do you think that I could have gotten killed in my truck if the train hit the rear of the trailer?

If it hit the trailer it will at least demolish it for a long ways. No telling what the trailer would have snatched around including the truck.

If the top of those tracks are shiny, then there's a good chance that branch line sees some regular traffic. Definitely would be slowing down and keeping both windows(passenger window's permanently up for the time being due to the motor burning up).

The real tricky ones would be those rarely used branch lines with the rust on the rails and next-to-no weed treatment. No activity for months or possibly years at a time. Then all of a sudden a new business gets some service. Or you got some car storage going on!!

Regardless, treat it like you would a two way intersection on a foggy day. Windows and K-Pop/any music down and ears open.

I think that feller u call a trainer was pulling ur leg. Trainers have a weird sense of humor and they like to mess with their ex students

Also those crossinga with no bars. Generally thoae tracks are going to local mills who use those cars and the trains come pick them up. The trains are not usually moving at high speeds across these crossings. Atleast the ones that i have seen.

That's some prime rail-fanning right there. Nothing like seeing some vintage units on a Class-3 roster doing some local transfers. Classic EMD power, with some rare sightings of a GE from the 80s thrown in there.

That's kinda where I was going with it......but I tend not to take "jokes" very well when they involve my job.

another thing you can do, is STOP the truck, apply the parking brakes...

GET OUT and check the condition of the rails..??

    are they hard rusted over..??

    are they really shiny..???

are they a combo of rust and shine..>????

rust, usually means not too much activity

    a combo of rust/shine...??

it's gonna get busy when you least expect it.

correct. at my former employer i had to cross an Exempt set of tracks each night. it was a dead set of tracks, that were never removed and paved over. maybe cuz it was in an industrial park, and the owner(s) of that park had better ways to spend the money...

    like for new limo's.
