No the SD card if for future use, like the older models now require one for the newest map update.

Press the reset.. Anytime the 7" screen goes blank or black it is usually a power issue. Make sure you have solid connections on the USB end and the DC end of the power cord.

OK. I'll try it. I power it up and it just says rand McNally. Won't move to another screen

 

My wife just put in a SD card and it came right on. Two seconds ago

 

I'll keep an eye on it. If I have to reset it. How is that done?

 

Small recessed button on the back, a little below the power connection.
