Would have been nice if Rand would have honored their warranty. I first registered mine with Rand the day after I bought it. The sound is no longer working. Either from the speaker and unable to get any sound from the jack into an external speaker.
I call Rand, tell them the issue. They ask if I have my receipt.......I then respond, I'm not sure, but it's registered.
Sorry, not good enough. No RMA either. Send it in and for 100.00, we'll fix the sound.
Question: Any other place I can take this and have it fixed?
As for the sound no longer working, seems this is a common problem, so much so, that Rand should have honored a recall and fix for it.

PM me in regards to the speaker.
Thanks,

ok let me just tell you to read the posts before this! I also have a 710 and It is as big as a piece of cr*p as any other model! and I also want to tell you that I had the "pleasure" of conversing with this self called 'rand mcnally' expert on this unit that was purchased in front of my eyes to be given to me as a gift! this guy that you are now taking advice from informed me that the unit is not mine because I did not buy it and that I was trying to "profit from it"! it everything this clown is saying is true, then WHY IN THE WORLD does every trucker known to man have constant issues with them?
my advice to you... get out while you can, get your money back and get a garmin! and stop listening to this salesman pitch you! he is obviously on a mission from the rip-off mother ship sent to this forum to have something to say to EVEY SINGLE ISSUE! yeah, thanks for fixing nothing! -
1. It was a gift.
2. Warranty applies only to orginal owner.
3. You nor the person who bought the 710 has the receipt either the store nor if paid for by CC a statement.
1. I offered to look at it because without a receipt Rand will not RMA it.
2. You refused the offer.
1. You then wanted to know how you can get your money back.
2. I informed you that it was a gift to you by your own words and as such you are not entitled to a refund.
3. Refunds can only be given with the receipt or proof of purchase, such as a CC Statement.
1. If it was a gift and now you want "your" money back, how can you be getting money back for something you did not buy?
2. Your theory - now you own it, you are the owner and as such are entitled to the same rights as the person who bought it.
I will extend my offer again to look at it. Without some sort of proof of purchase such as the receipt or CC statement Rand will not RMA it and if past 30 days from where you bought it, they will not honor it since you are out of the 30 day window.
I am sorry, but this is about a business transaction that you have no proof of purchase.
You never "conversed" with me. It was strictly by E-mail and I offered many times to look at it.
You may have the 710 and it probably was given to you since the person that bought it bought a 720 and gave the 710 to you. But, unless you have a receipt then Rand will not RMA it.
I find it kind of back handed that when you E-Mail me I trust those E-Mails to be of a personal nature and I tried many times to explain the above to you and offered many times to look at the 710 and now you come on TTR to air our "E-Mails. Either I could get it to work or I could not. I explained that also to you.
I have forwarded the entire E-Mail conversation to the Director of Customer Support along with a CC to the Supervisor of Customer Support.
"Every" is "all encompassing". "Some" may have issues, but not "Every", since "Every" trucker known to man does not own a TND.
I am not a Salesman. I am a Manager, Field Research who oversee's the Beta Testers and does come on TTR to help other drivers that have issues or needs some sort of help. I do not guarantee 100% that every customer's TND that I work on will work. But, I at least try to help. I do not have all the answers, but I do have resources that I can go to to find the answers or at least try.
I spend many hours keeping and repairing the Test units that the testers use. Yes they do break from time to time such as a USB port or Screen. So, I am familiar with the internal workings of the TND and yes I do have a 30 year electronic background. And before you ask, yes I drove 3 years OTR.
Rand did not ask me to come to this forum. I started when I was a Beta Tester myself because not every customer is happy with CS or they need help outside of business hours. I just continued on once Rand hired me.
Thanks,

I was just making a refeance to you trying to answer everyones post on here... you are the one airing out our personal email conversation! I just said to basically be careful with anything that has to do with rand McNally! And if you hadn't had come across so rude in your emails then I wouldn't feel the need to warn others about 'those'you who work with rm. And what could you possibly do to fix this thing that you couldn't just tell Simone what the problem may be? Its simple, the little green/red light works somewhat and it never turns on. Obviously the is not the first time 'rand m' has heated of a problem with the same issue. So what could it be? Battery? Power button? Boot loop issue? You have no idea without holding it in your hands? Sorry, but I would have to be crazy to send my $400 + gift to anyone without a workorder. Working or not. Thanks for the offer again, but unless you can guarantee my piece of junk will return to me no more a piece of junk that it already is, I will have to sa
y no thanks! -
When was it bought? Where was it bought? What truckstop? How was it bought? (cash/cc/points)
Yes I try to answer everyone's post here on TTR that has to do with the TND. Why let a post go unanswered when a solution may be available? Is this so wrong?
Lately a few drivers have taken some offense that I as a person from Rand actually is on TTR. Your post saying I am a "clown" is one of them.
If you as a "user" opens the case then yes the warranty is void. Anything is like that. On the other hand, me being a employee and a manager if I open the case and you can provide a receipt if I cannot fix it then I have direct access to have it RMA'd with no questions asked since I am the one that has seen the problem.
There is a difference between a customer opening a TND and an employee opening the TND.
Without it in my hand I cannot "guess" the issue away. You tried the basic tricks and they did not work. Now it is time for more in-depth troubleshooting.
Now to refer back to establish a baseline of when you received this 710. You stated to me that you have used it about 18 days. You also stated that he bought the 710 and bought the 720 pretty much the next day. So this would place the purchase of the 710 right about the end of November 2012.
Since you stated in your post that it was bought in front of your eyes to be given to you as a gift. This means he bought the 710, never used it and gave it to you when he got the 720.
Now if it was purchased around the end of Nov 2012, it would have not been $400. It would have been on sale since the moment the 720 is available on market all dealers will then mark down the 710. This would have been around $199-$299. Truck stops might have had a 710 in stock, but once the 720 is available then the 710 would no longer be available from DAS.
I simply cannot guarantee your 710 will work or not work once I look at it.
Can you provide some sort of proof of purchase - a store receipt or a CC statement?
thanks,
Mark -
it sat around till I could use it, for the 2 to 3 days I used it. to make this part clear, I used it for about 2 days and then about 15 days later (2 weeks or so) it decided to turn back on for a day! -
As I understand it now since you have expounded upon your time reference.. He got the 710 in Aug and then the 720 five (5) months later. He then used the 710 for five (5) months and when he bought the 720 in Dec he decided he no longer needed the 710 and gave it to you in Dec. Or he bought the 710 in Aug and gave it to you in Aug, so he was without any TND for the five months till Dec when he got the 720?
" I guess I explained this part to the phone "help" for good ol rand!" not understanding this statement.
You mentioned you used it for 18 days, now you used it for 2 - 3 days and left it off for a couple of weeks and when you went to turn it back on it will now not turn on?
So again, does your friend have any proof of purchase such as a CC statement or store receipt?
If he does not then Rand will not RMA it. You do not wish me to look at it. So you are at a impasse.
You deliver freight, yet the shipper trusts you with thousands of dollars of his product and hopes you deliver it to the consignee. All this and all you have is a BOL.
It is up to you. You can send it to me to look at or you can try to find proof of purchase for an RMA.
thanks,
mark -
yes i did mention something as to 18 days of use and just now made it REALLY clear that it was 2 - 3 days! you are right.... sooo?
and NO he did NOT use it for 5 months, he bought it and gave it to me. I do not know or care what he used for the 5 months or so before he later bought the 720. what does that even matter?
He bought it for me as a gift and later decided to get one. why are we making this soooo complicated? I have a gift! I used it for like 3 days and it pooped out! simple as that! therefore the feeling of rotten piece of rand junk! -
Do you have a receipt?
Do you have proof of purchase such as a CC statement? (if he bought it, does he have).
Without proof of purchase you cannot RMA it with Rand.
You do not trust me, so my offer is withdrawn.
Thanks,
Mark
