Why do you ignore the questions of where it was bought or how it was bought? If you were standing there you would have known if it was cash or a CC?

What is the serial number off the back please.

I am still not understanding if it was bought in Aug and given to you in Aug, you let it just sit unopened in the truck for 5 months?

    Thanks,
    mark

I have been doing a lot of reading here and seen A lot of issues with the Rand McNally MY husband is the Trucker and he has the Rand McNally TND 710. We have had a lot of issues with it. without going into a lot of detail, (if you want to hear it all I can tell you...) it froze, wont shut off, wont do anything... when he first got it, he LOVED IT. Now it seems like he hates it. He has got so very, very dependent on it, that Im sure he would use it to find his way from our front yard to our back yard. :biggrin_25525: Anything you could say to give us a hand would help.

DC Cord, take the USB end and slightly squeeze to provide a more snug fit.

Let me know if this helps.

Well folks, I encourage all of you to NOT purchase any more Rand McNally products! Since I had purchased my original 710 2 years ago, I have had 2 replacement units as well as hours of begging and pleading with Rand's customer service over issues. Today was the last straw for me. When I purchased this unit, I spent quite a bit of money for it under the pretense that it had lifetime updates (according to the box).
After about a 1/2 hr of talking to the customer service rep, I find out that I have to send them a picture of the original box to prove that they should provide lifetime updates! They made the ###### thing, but I have to prove it! Now, if I cannot find the original box proving that the unit has free updates, I have to pay for the lifetime map upgrades!
Well, I already spent way too much for the unit, shipping TWICE, too much time getting this fraudulent company to make good on their product and too much frustration. I politely informed the rep that they have lost a customer and I am telling my story so others will not waste their hard earned money on a product who's company will NOT stand behind it!
I will also be submitting a report with the Better Business Bureau as well as my State's consumer advocate office.
DO NOT BUY RAND MCNALLY! THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS! THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM TO PROVE THIS!

Please also note - Lifetime does not mean your Lifetime. It is the Lifetime of the product for support by a company.

Lifetime updates - operating software - Downloaded via the TND Dock - no charge.

Lifetime Maps - You would have had to send in a registration card to register. It is not done automatically. If the box showed Lifetime maps, then take a pic of the box showing that, also on the box is a little silver tag with a serial number, take a picture of that, along with a picture of the serial number off the back of the TND.

Do you still have the receipt for this TND?

Not all purchases will have LTM's. These are Promo's run at different times.

It is common business practice for a customer to ship to the company and the company pays for shipping back. They will issue an RMA, but not pay for shipping.

You mention that you have had to send it in twice in two years? They did stand behind the product by issuing you a replacement item.

The only issue now is if you are eligible for LTM's. If you have your receipt I can contact the Product Manager and verify if LTM's were running in a Promo at that time and then try to get you added to the LTM DB.

Without some sort of proof since you claim you are due LTM's and did not send in a registration card it will be hard to just add you to the LTM's DB. Proof will be the box and the pictures I suggested above.

    Thanks,
    Mark

We have 710 we bought new in April of 2012. We have had it replaced once because of it locking up and not charging. The replacement did the same thing so i figured out the plug squeeze.
I had to pay upfront for the replacement then had to go thru my cc company to get my money back after i returned the original unit. Now this replacement unit is terrible at receiving gps. Right now. Iam in Flotida and have no gps siginal. I hope I don't have to jump thru hoops again to get my 710 working again. :biggrin_25510:

I don't know about the 710. It always seemed to mosroute. Never owned one really. I bought the 720 when it first came out. I love it. Had it for 6-7 months now and no major issues.

It is a common business practice that the customer pays for shipping to the company and the company pays the shipping back. E-Mail me more information on why you had to go to your CC company for the refund? Thanks,Mark

I had a 710 last summer. The problem I had with it was it got to hot sitting in the window. Made a drop in Brunswick,MD last july. It was 95 to 100 degress that week. After making the drop and put in the new address It frozze up and didn't want to work. Took it out of the window and sat it in front of the ac vent and let it cool, it started working. Had to do that serval more times that week. I trade up to a720 and haven't had any problems it. Knock on wood!
