I'm having the same issues with the ELD50 paired with an Overdryve8 Pro. Started running this around Thanksgiving, although I found the Driver Connect application somewhat cumbersome, it did function more or less properly until they released the production update on Dec. 15th. Continual issues ever since. Drops connection to the ELD frequently, freezes up and shuts down multiple times during the day, will switch me to on-duty while cruising down the highway. Yesterday, it seems to self-correct the driving / on-duty disparity and at the end of the day my log was fine. This morning I launched Driver Connect and it now shows me as driving for 17 straight hours. I have been very diligent about checking for updates and doing so as prompted. Multiple calls to RM tech support with wait times of over an hour. I'm doing double work now maintaining a paper log as I simply do not trust the RM systems.

    Sour grapes?

Qualcomm stepped up and risked millions of R&D dollars and filled both needs and wants of the transportation industry. You really have a problem with capitalism or do you just not have anything better to do than to bash the only one who got it right?

What. Are you one who thinks we were better off sitting in smokey nasty phone booths to get our communication business done?

I have a problem with companies who fail to offer a product people want, so they turn to government to have their product mandated. That ISN'T capitalism. The big players in the electronic log/fleet management industry were right there hand in hand with the ATA (who for the most part had already adopted the technology in their own trucks by choice) in forcing this boondoggle upon the rest of the industry which wasn't interested in what those companies had to offer. Rather than creating a product that would be useful and beneficial to the small fleets, they turned to government to have their products FORCED upon those who would not otherwise buy them. I never had a problem with anyone CHOOSING to run electronic logs, or CHOOSING to do anything else, for that matter. The problem I have is when they take THEIR CHOICE and FORCE it upon ME. Capitalism implies I have a choice as to whether I feel a product or service meets my needs, and whether or not I feel the price is fair...and if it isn't, I don't HAVE to buy it. This mandate is far from that.

There are plenty of companies that jumped into the game after the mandate was in place that played no role in getting the mandate pushed through. If I must spend money on this crap, I'll send it to one of them.

Just a guess but 99% of the ELD company's will go the way of the 8 track tape players in the next 2 years. Take the Money and RUN.

This was a component of my thought process in purchasing from Rand McNally ... Silly me for thinking that a well-established brand name company would develop and offer a product that actually functions correctly

It had more to with ATA mandating congress and the FMCA to get this passed. Big companies wanted a level playing field. They are the ones that cause this mess

Yes, the ATA pushed for the mandate, as did qualcomm, peoplenet, omnitracks, and the other big players in the elog business prior to the mandate. They saw a market full of folks who wouldn't otherwise buy their products and jumped at the opportunity to force them to pony up. For the ATA it was about leveling the playing field. For the elog companies, it was about forcing the other 90% of the industry to buy their products.

    For anyone following this post,,,
Rand McNally says unistall and reinstall and that should correct the problem. It did,,,,,,, Till yesterday when the drivers day was over. The driver logged off-duty for the day. That same driver gets in the truck at 7 am today,,,,, and now he is in driving violation due to the log showing him driving instead of off-duty. 2 trucks and both have the same issue. o_O

Bottom line, Rand McNally is not there yet. I cant recommend the ELD-50 and the Driver Connect app. We are still looking for a reliable option.
