Taking the plug apart does not solve the issue. It just showed me what is in each plug.
So I was able to understand the parts and see the issue. I am sure just like most people you are not happy that I am posting a pic. I did not say any more about the plugs.
DO NOT TAKE APART YOU VOID THE WARRANTY!
Hopefully, you are saying this as you are going to give all these people new plugs and want the old ones back.
Look I was able to download google play on some peoples units. Then set them up with apps that keep apps updated. Simple things but you all took away google play. Google play is simply stupid simple for most who use smartphones. Not some weird app sites.
My point is that a massive amount of the drivers have no tech skills.
The amount of money you all stand to make on monthly fees is incredible so bit the bullet and solve this.
I spent 1500 with you and I am not bugging you all for help and I am signed up to pay my monthly fees.
I am sure companies are really trying to stay in the game as phones and apps have to hurt the hard mounted GPS market.
I personally want to see you all figure this out but I think you tried to hard to protect the Rand Name and missed the world we live in and that is ease of use. People spend on ease of use and will spend more.
So you can go on and on about how much work went into this. I am sure a large company overspent millions on the dev of software.
I also know companies are going to buy systems and re-buy and re-buy until someone makes the most simple stupid platform ever. So win truckers over!
Every one will waste money across the board!
Writing a HOS app sir is not a massive undertaking. If you typed that with a straight face I truly feel bad for you all. As the world has changed and this is not complex. It actually is rather cut and dry yes decent amount of Variables but nothing too crazy at the end of the day man!
Now the people buying this stuff do not care and should not care what it took you all to complete this. You also knew the mandate DATE and this should have been perfect.
DO NOT TAKE APART IT VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY!
I bought Rand McNally and I even have a man on my account who has a company with 50 plus trucks watching my progress as he is not making headway with his units he bought.
But here I am figuring it out.
So I care about the men and women who are on the roads and stressed out, as some of us have to answer to people some do not but we all have to answer to the DOT man and no idea if they will buy the well the unit was frozen sir and I could not sit and play with it anymore as no matter what I am running out of hours. That creates stress as we do not like to break the law and or want to feel like we did something wrong when we know we didn't. Trust me people have management with no understanding of tech and they yell and threatens to write them up as they just blame the driver and say they must of shut the unit off.
The crap is getting worse day by day and it's not just Rand Sir.
I am trying to get you all to solve as we the drivers need a simple stupid solution so we can do our jobs and keep our heads on the road.
The problems are fixable! ALSO I bought your products My point was I spent way more and set up a laptop with Andriod and also bought tablets etc and reality is they all freeze up!
Meaning just maybe the problem is just where I said it is!
Do not take apart you plug people as it voids the warranty. Nothing accomplished by taking apart other than knowing the specs!Last edited: Jan 5, 2018
terryt Thanks this. -
Yes something was accomplished.. the warranty is void.
SO every truck driver will now think they can take it apart to see how it works... ..... I Highly suggest against that.
Maybe if you have been following what I have posted the last week would have shown you it is software, not the memory... and no the blue plug did not become clogged with electrons all looking for a way out. -
Warranties are for chumps, anyway. If you can't afford to replace it, could you really afford it the first time? If you can be without it for a few weeks/months while it goes through the process of being replaced under warranty, did you really need it to begin with? If you can't afford to be without it while the manufacturer drags their feet honoring the warranty, the warranty isn't worth the paper it was printed on.Makeajump Thanks this. -
That is fine for him, I did not want the general consensus to be that it was okay to just take it apart. If they try to send to RM for warranty, the warranty would be void.

I am a paying customer and I also posted my account number from post one.
I also am posting that I am more concerned about the drivers who are struggling. I would love to understand why the blue plug still is unable to work and the Dc200 is.
What is the difference between the two plugs, sir?
I truly love how you speak to me. As I have stated over and over that I would love to see Rand McNally get this perfect. I am not mentioning other company names and I clearly said you all are not the only ones with this issue.
I am ok with the fact that I voided the Warranty. But let's be honest I could not even return the 80 bundle I bought as it seems I lost the 30 cent piece of plastic. I am actually ok with the money spent and I am not looking to get any money back.
So you can post to attempt to make me sound dumb. Have at it, man. You have no clue who you are speaking to and obviously, do not care that I am a paying customer. Rock on man! -
That being said. You are right in that I don't know you and I beg to differ in a long way that I do care about the customer. You will notice that I have another thread for Rand Products (Part 3) that has been running since 2009. So, if I was not concerned maybe you could ask on there how much I spend of my time after hours, on my personal home phone, late at night, weekends, driving to met customers (100 miles sometimes) how much I care about the customer and the product. Or at Mats/Gats, with MATS helping over 500 customers in 3 days.
I just cannot cordon a customer opening up a product under warranty and posting such without expressing the viewpoint of Rand.
For the most part the ones posting are using ELD-50's, not DC 200's. They are different.
For starters... what kind of truck? Round or rectangular plug? 6/9 pin? Device paired to? OS ver? DC App what version?
I am a technical person and I need info to determine the causes, I cannot pull out of the hat the reason without knowing the background -
I have a 2009 Mack Cxu 613 which has a 9 pin.
I posted in my first thread I purchased the TND Bundle. Sorry, I should have said the bundle has the ELD50 plug.
So I started my adventure out with
Tnd 80 with ELD50
Then after a few days or nonstop issues, I stepped up and purchased the
OverDryve 8 Pro and used the ELD50
Nope all the same issues as I had with the TND 80
So I purchased
Dc200
Wow, it worked! But once I shut the truck down for the day when I fired up the truck and unit and it started to buffer data the app just started to crash. So I tried running on a brand new Note 8 phone bought an android tablet and nothing everything performed the same.
So I took a Dell laptop with 8 gigs of ram and installed the android os.
So now I could run tests and data log the android os.
All was fine with resources and testing. The only issue was the software froze. But the system itself was in check so now I just pulled the plug on the truck and snap the app unfroze and the TND80 and the OverDryve 8 Pro would come back to life.
So that's when I decided to take things apart to see what the deal was.
You posted
"Maybe if you have been following what I have posted the last week would have shown you it is software, not the memory"
Sir, I have updated the units daily. The plugs have updated as well when the update is available.
:"... and no the blue plug did not become clogged with electrons all looking for a way out."
Sir, I am to assume you are being funny. As I am sure you're aware the plugs stores data hence the buffering that takes place to catch the TND 80 and or the OverDryve 8 Pro up with anything it missed while they were not connected.
I have been home for the last 24 hours and I will be turning the truck on tomorrow afternoon.
I will gladly videotape everything for you as when it starts to buffer the Electrons or DATA stored on the plug it will freeze the system. I will unplug everything and start over and I will not clear it on video like I have been. But once I do what I do with the DC200 I am good to go until I let the truck sit for 24 hours.
The eld50 have not used in a week or so but will be happy to tomorrow.
The DC200 Firmware 0.1.5
I will make sure I take a video when I get up later today.
Thanks
