    I am getting confused here..

with the other USB cable (my spare) the pc acknowledge the connection but gave me the error message that the device plugged in was inoperable, it gave me the option to click on the error message which took me to the device mgr and showed me the connected device that was inoperable....

Did on the screen of the TND did it show the words "connected". I am not talking about the PC.

If the TND showed "connected" on the screen and the PC does not see the device. Then this is a PC issue. Did you try to change the power settings to high?

    Thanks,
    Mark

ok... getting closer now..... I did as you suggested.... I changed the pwr settings.... rebooted... now for the first time... as i plug in my tnd it shows the handshaking.... it connects.... (says connected) However the PC shows an error message saying that the device plugged in is not being recognized by windows.... i switch ports... every time i first plug it in the tnd shows connected but windows does not recognize the device

Turn the 720 off, connect it to the computer, then turn the 720 on. See if the PC will see it?

If that does not work, with the 720 on and connected to the computer, restart you computer.

What kind of computer? 64 or 32 bit? What Windows?

    Thanks,
    mark

Core i7 - You can try one other thing, With the "I" processors you might have to buy a Powered USB hub and then see if it connects. I have dealt with the "i5" processors with a testers unit and I think I had to use a 1' USB power cord. But, these are a little hard to find.

Is this the only computer you have?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    New update.

    Customer was offered

    1. Refund.
    2. RMA the existing 720.
    3. Buy another Refurb and credit back when the orginal is send back.

Customer did not want any of the three options. Rand had did everything in their powers to make this customer happy.

Power settings on the PC caused the lack of "connected" to the 720, but the computer still not see it as a valid device. This is a PC issue. Drivers for USB devices are already on any computer system and are not loaded by any TND.

Customer may try a 1' USB cable or a Power USB Hub. This has to plug into AC and not be powered by the laptop.

As mentioned above, newer PC's tend to power share accross the USB Ports and are set to a lower power setting. This has to be changed to a high power setting. If on battery this will shorten the time the battery will be available, so it is suggested you be on AC. In a truck you may not have AC, so when you take a shower take your laptop with you and plug it into AC and then power settings to high and see it the PC will see the TND as a external device.

    Thanks,
    mark

Why don't you return for a refund go to a truckstop or whatever dealer is available and buy a new one? It seems that you wanted them to send you a new one and then you send them yours back to them I am not the smartest person in the world but I don't know of anyone who is willing to do that. In their defense they send you a new one and you don't send yours back and they are out of x amount of dollars. Sounds as if you paid more for this than a new one.

The reman ones are a good deal. but u could have a problum with it thats why they give u a deal.
