If you had done a prior detour around that construction, it will remember it and detour you each time. You have to go into the "cog" window. Bottom left of the map screen and clear the detours.

I think that is what is happening.

The TND will not do an automatic detour of any construction zone. It will let you know it is there under the Turn by Turn list.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Okay, so I am about to get a truck gps and am torn between the RM-TND 500 and the Cobra GPSM 7700. Can anyone please tell me the advantages either has on the other.

    - Has anyone used both that can tell us which is most accurate? (Doesn't tell you that you are approaching a street after you've already passed it, etc.)

    - Are either going to add lane assist anytime soon?

-Promiles vs Rand McNally? (My company's Qualcom uses RM. I thought it might be good to go Promiles just to have the routing comparison.)

I am going to post this question on the Cobra thread too, just to make sure I get all the info I can before I drop $$ on a new gadget.

    Thanks for the great thread!

I don't think that it can be stressed to drivers enough that you CAN NOT rely on gps. It is one of three tools in your toolbox. 1. Motor Carriers Atlas 2. GPS and 3. The one that bridges the gap, COMMON SENSE.

In Chicago a couple days ago, I was approaching the road that I was looking for, but wasn't sure it was it. No street signs. I went past it and was sure that had to be it, after I passed it. I pulled over and looked it up on Mapquest on my phone. That was it. Lucky me, I was able to just drive around the block. It would have been nice to have a GPS confirm that was my turn. Truck drivers know how much time it can cost you to miss a turn or when you have been given bad directions. (No place to turn around for several miles sound familiar?) GPS is a usefull tool that must be used with common sense AND an motor carriers atlas. Period.

    I have had my moments.
I wish I had waited till around now to get it, and not when it first came out. The bugs were really really bad at release, and I paid 100 dollars more for it than it is selling for now.
So I basically paid an extra 100 for frustration.

I think in the long run it will be the best out there, it is just taking some time to get to that point. The addition of via points will help allot. No GPS should be sold without that function.
As time passes the unit is getting better. And all the updates to date have been free.
The first time they ask me to pay for an update of data or function that should have been on the unit at release I will go nuts though, and at that point this unit will be on every bad product list in the country within hours.
I am very very good at spamming all the buyer sites and I can enlist plenty of help lol.

So basically so far it is not all it should be, but the support is very good and I am looking to the future.

Mark Kling and JimTheHut Thank this.

I had a pick up at "Alliance Compressors" at 100 Industrial Dr. Natchitoches La the other day. The only address my TND could find was 100 Industrial Ave which was about 10 miles away from where I needed to be. When I got there I noticed the road wasn't even on the gps. Might want to let Rand know about this so they can add it to the database.

    Mark,

The address for the Walmart in Newburgh, NY still hasn't been corrected in the database. Its been at least 2 months ago and probably closer to 3 or 4. It lists it on 1201 Union Ave. I searched it online and the Navteq map showed 1201 Union Avenue, Route 300. as the address. There's actually a Union Ave. and a Union Avenue Ext./ Route 300. Thats apparently where the confusion is coming in.

    Thanks

Ive done my homework with these units and as mentionned before you have to use common sense using these units and dont solely rely on them cause you will get into trouble as far as i'm concerned RM has the best aftersale service with both online support as well as phone not to mention free updates alot of the other units you must pay for updates and i think thats a marketing scheme personally, you have mark here who bends over backwards to help each and every driver in the best possible way he can in order to get all your problems adressed as soon as possible and mostly stand behind the brand, i cant count on one hand companies that will do this it's all about makin the money and the heck with you after that.

That is weird. I never told it to detour. I happened to go back up through Portland again and thought it would route me around it again and it did not. But this time south on I-5 around exit 130 it routed me to exit the highway and get back on. Mind you I am not actually following what it says just telling you what its telling me to do. The funny thing is it only does these little detours once. When I come back that way it does not do it. Though I would still like to turn off construction from my list
