Back around the first of March I made a posting regarding a bad connector. This is the plug connector on the side of the unit. Have been able to make contact holding it under tension using electrical tape, today its totally dead Had talked to tech service at Rand and they said they would send shipping tags to the house, which they have done. The problem is that the unit has been out for 5 wks with 3 days home. Get home, box the unit, send to Rand, Rand gets old unit, ships new unit. We could be back on the road when new unit arrives and get to spend weeks without the unit. offered to charge the new unit to my credit card and Rand could delete the charge when the old unit arrives, Dell does this with their computers, no dice, they will not go for that. Policy is--- bad unit back---new unit out. and you could spend many weeks without a unit. This is not great support. The turn around on replacing units must improve if they want to grow the business.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if other GPS providers do this?

Garmin or Cobra for example? :biggrin_25511:

..I'm curious... I would think that Rand would likely follow what their competition does. But maybe not. Maybe if others don't offer this, Rand could - it would certainly make a Rand purchase even more appealing.

This is an excellent idea either way...especially considering the lack of home-time many OTR drivers have...

I have forwarded that up to RM. With Drivers not being home for long I can see the fustration of waiting for a unit

    Thanks,
    Mark

RM is revisiting their policy on returns. Input like this helps out in showing RM that drivers do lead a different life style and a normal return policy is not a real option for drivers. It puts them without a unit for weeks on end.

    Thanks,
    Mark

When something like this happens again... connect your unit up to your computer when you are shut down... look under your external drives,,, look for the Navi folder and then the logs folder. Send me the logs.

    Thanks,
    Mark

When you see this happen. Let me know state\road\dir\exit. What is happening in the mapping database is that certain factors are set different for that ramp versus the freeway. And being the good little TND it follows its mapping database.

But, once that ramp has been indentifed, RM can look at that ramp in the mapping database and correct its information.

Once corrected, it will not be in the current mapping database that your TND is running, but will be updated for the next mapping database when released.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Will do, it doesn't happen that often, just now and then and thankfully not when I need them.:biggrin_255:

Just remember when it does happen.... May have been fixed already, but the logs will tell the engineers.

    Thanks,
