I'm becoming less and less impressed as time goes by and the TND keeps screwing up.
I used to be able to at least use it to keep track of miles within a state but now it hangs up two or three times a day and can't find a GPS signal until I stop.
I was heading south on 14 just north of I-5 in CA and it just froze up again. Normally I reboot it to get it going again but then it would have taken a lifetime to find itself and I wanted to input a new base I was going to via the save location button. I ended up pushing the turn arrow in the top left corner and it clicked and came back to life, thankfully.
I've been hoping that the update would fix it but that's taking forever. I wanted to get through MATS to exchange it with Mark but couldn't make it.
I've been running a Garmin 2610 and a TomTom Go730 beside it and getting by but didn't I spend $500 on this thing?![]()

Our defective unit took 7 weeks to complete the processes. When your on the road its hard to make a connection with the unit. Does Rand have any plans to change the current policy. The system that Dell uses works quite well. New computer is shipped out against your credit card, charge is removed when they receive defective unit back. Its not a bullet proof system, but is sure speeds things up.
Reporting new roads, state hy151 now by-passes Fond du Lac, WI. how long is normal time for that change to show up on paper maps or software programs? After alerting Rand.Dead Fish Thanks this. -
It seems you like your Tom-Tom, but it is a PND not a TND. A PND is a personal navigation device. It does not take into account STAA routing, height, width or length. These are extra settings in the mapping database that the TND or any other Truck navigation device needs to look at before it can give you a legal route. Is the mapping database 100% correct, by no means.
If it will not route you on a certain road then chances that the road is not a STAA road. The TND will not route you. But, if you have to make a stop on that road then follow local signage.
Now in so far as you being in your driveway it not knowing, that is a mapping error. I live in the country and the mapping database has my house 500 ft down the road. Navteq error.
Next question is, under preferences\route settings - do you have anything set to avoid? If so, please set to allow. I have noted since version 1472 has been out that this was an issue. If you set anything to avoid it will affect your routing.
Have you called Tech Support, if so how long ago?
If you wish you can contact me at rmleadbetatester at gmail to leave your name and phone number so they can check their logs and find out why you have not been contacted.
Thanks,

The TND plots the entire route from start to finish at the time it calculates.
This gives the indication that it is calculating at a faster speed.

Reporting new mapping information. Once it is received at Rand they verify the data with local\state governments. Then they correct the mapping database. When a new mapping database is released the change will be in it. Most mapping companies have quarterly\yearly updates.
Rand does have a new mapping database in QA that is being tested.

I here that a major competitor (one that has a NASCAR truck sponsorship) will be providing map updates quarterly via the Internet at NO CHARGE shortly .... available on their new x50 series of units. -
If you plan a 3000 mile trip the TND will route the entire 3000 miles as the actual roads it has selected.
Map updates via the web will consume a lot of a bandwidth and time. The TND is about 2.5 GB. Unless you have a very high speed the download can take several hours and on slower connections you may stand the chance of getting bad packets. (corrupted). On my aircard at a standard speed it took over 9 hours.
As to no charge, the first one or two may be free, but like anybody a company cannot survive if everything is given away. Do you haul for free? Mapping data is time consuming and is bought from one of the two major mapping companies. I cannot see a company having to buy the data and then give it away.
As stated, most navigation companies already do quarterly updates. Rand is taking a little longer due to the overwheming input from the drivers as to incorrect mapping data. Truck mapping data follows a more stricter guideline.
Thanks,
Mark -
