Roads are always changing, The map data does take a bit of time to make it to the Map Database company. You have seen road construction signs up for months on end, even though no one is working. DOT has to sign off on the construction before the signs can be removed.

If the unit does not go the way you want, simply keep driving and the GPS will recalculate another truck legal route.

    thanks,,

Not good enough. The way I want to go may be totally different. It may take hours to re-route me the correct way. Meanwhile dispatch wants to know when I'll be there. How can I tell them when I don't know the distance?

Sometimes it can take 1-2 hours past the GPS recommended route before it will clue in to the route I want to take.

So basically you want what the O/S,O/W wants.. to input your route the way you need. As stated before the TND is not there yet. It is on the top 10 for routing updates.

    Thanks,

You lost me there. Did you see the part about "road data is constantly changing throughout the country which will always be an issue for all of the GPS companies?"

There is not ONE map, electronic or paper, in EXISTANCE that is 100% correct "up to the minute." And unless there is some kind of technological breakthrough, there won't EVER be a map that fits that description. Roads names, locations, businesses, exit numbers, bridges - they change EVERY WEEK somewhere in the country. If you theoretically had a GPS today that was 100% correct - next month there would be places where it would be wrong.

On your second point "multi-stop or true "via point"(with complete routing on the map plus mileage) is essential" we are in total agreement. That's why I said that would be a remaining "vast improvement."

On your third point "when it doesn't go on the route you want" you simply add a via point to the trip by touching the road that you DO want to take and make it a multi-stop trip. When Rand finishes the multi-stop improvement project so that it then shows the entire trip all at once, then it will be better, but it is still doable now as is.

I thought I'd update you all. I returned the Garmin 465t and exchanged it for the TND 500 3 days ago and so far the TND 500 is definately a keeper! I did the updates this evening (now it beeps instead of chirps) and tomorrow I'll test it on my way from Southern Connecicut to Linden and Elizabeth New Jersey. I am very impressed with Rand McNally so far.

I think you did misunderstand what I was trying to get at. I was trying to tie all 3 together. I'm not upset that map data is old, even years old for many Canadian cities. But what I need to know is how far I to the destination using the route I want. The problem is when you combine these three problems together. Old map data, route not going the way I want it, and inability to do mileage/routing for the whole route. Especially during LTL drops in Canada I absolutely must boot up my laptop (PITA since it's a POS) and do everything on MS streets + trips. Kind of defeats the purpose of owning a GPS doesn't it? I never had this problem with my old Garmin.

Of course it will be solved with true multi-stops or via points. But until then I have to constantly use my computer to get a decent ETA/mileage out of a multi-drop that goes to many small towns.

So essentially we're in agreement. I'm not trying to be pissy here at all. Fixing multi-stops should be the #1 priority at Rand Mcnally.

I tried mine here and it exported okay. Make sure on the TND Dock at the bottom it shows in orange that the IntelliRoute is connected.

If their are no miles in the logged miles it will tell you nothing to export.

    Thanks,
    Mark
