I have to agree with this wholeheartedly. I have had it showing weight restrictions on major truck routes, including the one this driver mentioned, I have had it wanting me to turn onto county roads that go nowhere, when I am on State Hwy 6 . Between Waco & Houston, TX.
Heck just the other day it couldn't find a legal route for me from Catarina, Texas to Alvin, Texas. The funny thing is, it found a legal route to Catarina from Alvin using the same truck parameters I was using for the return trip. I knew where I was going but wanted to have the ETA/Mileage shown.
It is constantly coming up with a different return route then it gave for the trip out.
Overall I have to say that I do find this thing useful as a speedometer, seems like the most accurate thing about it. It does give a person some assistance but I would advise anybody using any GPS available to keep their atlas handy & verify or dispel any info the GPS gives to cover your hind side. -
When the TND routes, it looks at the mapping database build in along with the truck attributes. You see a road, the TND sees road segments, and even though you see one road with two lanes, the TND sees a different segment for each side of the road; for example, the westbound may have a false restriction in the database whereas the eastbound does not. So in its thinking, the westbound is not a truck legal route.
By giving us the information as provided we can look at the segments and get the database corrected.
If you are going to travel roads that are restricted to STAA traffic, just make yourself 96" wide and a 48' trailer. This is allowed on a NON-STAA road.

back in 2006 I went to work for Carolina Cargo and I went out and bought a tom tom 300. For going out west and back it was such a Godsend. I never ever looked at a map and low bridges were not a concern out there. Now with any gps you have to add your own intelligence to it. There will be times when a car gps will tell you to make a turn on a street that you cant and you just have to keep driving ahead until it reroutes you on another one. If I decide to go back out on the road again I will definitely get a trucking GPS especially for a company that goes up North East.
Too many low bridges and restricted roads up there. -

I can't agree more. i still read new paper even today. the paper map cannot be 100% replaced by a gps device. -

Has anyone else had this issue since the last updates? When I try to delete an address from the History the unit locks up with an application error in navi.exe. Have to power off unit and reboot. Now my history is accumulating all these addresses i will no longer need.

That is a issue that popped up after the new version release. The History file will only go ten pages and they will roll off. It has been fixed and will be in the next released version.

I jut bought my 500 yesterday so I havent got to use it much but I am heading to Alabama in 2 days for oreientation so I am going to leave it in truck mode for the trip from Arkansas and see how it does. What little I have used it I think that it is a pretty good GPS unit but I am looking forward to the drive to Alabama to really get a feel for it. But nothing can replace a good atlas for sure.
