Talking old school here.....
Never liked the IBM or MS/DOS. Found DR/DOS to be better.
Then I did spend my formative years on UNIX. -
Are the truck services going to be in a update for the TND 500, or will I have to upgrade to a TND 510 to get them?
-
Thanks,
Mark -
Some of the features that will be available to existing 500/700 owners
in a free update within the next couple of months are:
- Search addresses by ZIP code in U.S. and 3 digit Postal code in Canada
- Multi-stop full route preview
- Mile markers
- Additional routing option
- Destination entry by latitude/longitude
Features on the 510/710 only are:
- Truck Services search
- Predicted Traffic (710 only)
- Custom location import
- Virtual Dashboard
- Shaded relief, showing mountains and terrain when zoomed out
- Latest Rand McNally map data -
While I love my 500 I am having an issue with it getting stuck and repeating itself on the miles - "continue on this road for 35 miles" over and over again. Sometimes can't even turn it off. Will start to power down then come back on and same repeat.
Help -
Two days ago I applied the 11.1.1842.1520 update to my TND 500 T5E. Major problems with going to Maryland that didn't exist before the update. No matter what address in Maryland, calculations are taking 10 minutes, literally. Before the update the unit was pretty fast no matter where I was going. This isn't good.
Second issue is the button in the top right that shows miles/arrival time. The fonts have been made smaller...why? I can barely see them now, and am finding that I have to keep double checking what I think I'm seeing.
Third, when I'm looking for in-route POIs (travel centers, specifically) the check box in the top right doesn't stay checked anymore. It used to stay checked at least until I started a new route, which was handy just because I typically look for larger places to fuel/park and don't have to keep checking the same box over and over again when I have to keep looking for places. It's much easier to uncheck the box one time than to re-check it constantly.
Lastly...and I don't mean to sound ignorant about this, but I just don't know the answer. How do I get map updates for the TND 500? SD card or TND Dock updates? I've heard that RM charges for these, and if that's true then I'm feeling a little ripped off considering many areas in the GPS are at least 2 years behind. I find that most of the roads that seem outdated are US Highways, not many interstates but some are a little off. Many US Highways have been changed and while driving the GPS just goes into pasture and doesn't know what to do.
Oh, one more thing...the log timer is still lacking. The 14 hr timer stops 15 minutes after the vehicle stops. That's not how the 14 hr rule works, so it makes it kind of pointless to have if it's not going to work properly. If I stop it manually that's one thing, but that's not what is happening, it stops itself after 15 minutes of inactivity. I'd like to be able to look at it and have it display correctly when I have to report my available hours remaining. Also, the 11 hr timer is flawed. I shouldn't have 6 hours driving time remaining and 5 hrs of my 14 remaining. Available drive time should never exceed the 14 hr remaining -
The E model has the latest in the map release. Their is another map update coming out. A lot of times major road construction can take over a year to get into a main map core update.
The 14 hour timer does not stop, after 15 min if you are on the driving line it will place you on the on Duty line and 15 min after on the off duty line.
In manual mode if you go to off duty on the DOT break then the 14 hr clk will stop.
Think about the 11 hr timer.. If I start my driving day at midnight, thus 2pm would be my end of the 14 hr clock... and I had a full 11 to drive. I get to the shipper in one hour... 10 left on the 11 hr clk and 13 left on the 14 hr clk. I am in the door for 10 hours. Now I am in the off duty mode, 14 still keeps counting... so I should be at 3 hrs left on the 14 hr clk and still 10 left on the 11 hr driving clk... since I only have drove 1 hour... but since my 14 is now down to 3 hours left, I can still have 10 on the driving clock... it is whatever comes first - 11 hours of driving or 14 hours of on duty.. so technically,,, I can run out of the 14 hour clk and still have plenty of driving hours left... just cannot use them...
Thanks,
