I can offer this, google DieselBoss out of Oregon. Call him and talk to him. He sells navigation units. He is honest and very knowedgeable about navigation products.
Tell him Mark from RM asked you to call.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you for your interest,

Again the unit is marketed as a way for a trucking company to increase profits and safety. That is the facts. I have taken issue with the number of major errors in the truck routing, these are facts and the logs have been submitted to RM.
Todays adventure is I90 in Cleveland, no through trucks, where does the unit want me to go??? not I490, yes sir to the no truck route. Simple Ann Arbor to upstate NY. As expected tried to send me through Canada, okay it is the shortest and fastest way by map. But not proper US truck routing. Did give me a weigh station warning going EB but the coop is on the WB side.
I have not be duped by most of these errors, and have traveled the correct way.
BTW since Mark has determined we should use the MCRA why pay $500.00 plus shipping, when we can do the same with any cheap unit that doesn't carry a premium price because it supposedly has the truck routing in it. -
Thanks for the response, I will take all this info into consideration when I make my purchase over the next week or so...

I 90 through Cleveland is not restricted in the MCRA.
Now in Nov 2008 this was done by OH DOT (as per OH DOT web page)
For the second part of the Innerbelt Bridge Safety Plan, ODOT will be rerouting most truck traffic to a new 2.5 mile route via I-77 and I-490. Crew are now posting nearly 100 signs along the I-90 corridor which alert truck drivers and hauling companies of the weight restrictions for various truck configurations. (See which types of trucks are detoured.)
This was a state option, a detour set by the state. Is it permanent? RM will have to contact OH DOT and ask. If it is permanent, then the MCRA will have to be changed along with the database.
Again, if you have a unit you could have inputted the data to let RM know.
I have no idea what "logs" you are referring too. Their are no user available logs for you to see. I posted my E-Mail, send me a copy of the "logs."
Routing you through Canada can be addressed. RM can put a option in the unit for the user to select US routing or Canada routing only. Good Point, but if you looked at the Turn by Turn list and noticed this, then you could have went to the little cog in the bottom left and detoured the Canada route. SO a work around was possible, did you do that?
Many "coops" in the US... can you remember what highway/state and approx mm?
Any professional driver would have more than one TOOL is assist him in his route planning. If you do not have an MCRA or simply cannot afford one then I will talk to RM and see if we can get you a current year.
I would suggest Nuudge, that on your next DOT break you take a little time and look at all the screens that are available. You would be amazed at what the unit can do.
What is the serial number on the back of your unit and version number? I posted my E-Mail. You can send it me that way since you keep forgetting to post it here..
Thanks again Nuudge,

a week ago I asked how the TND 500 will handle the issue of bridges that have signs posting a lower height than the actual height. I have not seen a responce. I think this could be a major issue for those of us that drive in the northeast.
The example was in New York I have driven under bridges posted as 12'2" with a 13'6" trailer. No I am not stupid. I observed other 13'6" trailers passing under the bridge before I went through.
I understand that the posted height has to do with snow pile up on the road surface.
The question is because they are posted at that height is the TND 500 going to route me through city streets or keep me on the interstate? -
I am sorry, I must have not seen that post, RM is aware of those issues especially in NYC. I have forwarded your question to RM. Were you aware that NYC posts a map for their city showing truck routes?
Here is the link,
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/trucks.shtml#map
The way the NYC marks their bridges could pose some issues. RM cannot actually mark the bridge as passable when in the winter the brigde would be a different height. I thnk RM will have to go by the way NYC marks their bridges. If the bridge is on a truck route according to the link above then it would be up to the driver if he could make it under that bridge according to the season.
NYC does mail out free maps if you request it. This would be a great tool in assisting your routing if you have to travel in NYC. Also be aware if you have a 53' you would probably need a permit.
Thanks,
Mark -
I went back and on page 13, I found your post..
"I don't know how RM can deal with this. "
I am sorry, it sounded like a statement to me.
Thanks,
Mark -
All i can say is wow... It seems as though Rand McNally is using all of those who bought this unit as BETA testers. They have people on a forum popular to the trucking industry constantly checking for bad posts and making it look like they are here to help, when really it seems as though they knew the product wasn't ready, so instead use the poor people who invested the grossly high amount of money in the unit to BETA test for them, thus saving them thousands of dollars they would have spent actually beta testing the unit.
All in all, people should know by now, NEVER buy something that is new. ALWAYS wait for v2 to come out. all v1 is, is a beta unit. I made the mistake of buying a first gen model with a first gen engine (2005 Focus with 2.0L Duratec motor). Nothing but issues. Same goes with electronics or anything else. The consumer is the beta tester, these forums are thei way of fixing the issues for free rather than testing it the way they should. Its disgusting these companies charge 200-300 MORE than a normal GPS unit, just because its made for truckers. Its a scam, and we are getting taken advantage of just like the truck stops do to us. -
Have you ever thought how much more a unit build for trucking needs to know for it to calcuate a route? Do you think that a unit build for cars for $200 cares about weight restrictions, hazmat, u-turns, restricted routes? This and more have to looked at by the unit based upon the parameters you inputted to your truck.
Go ahead and buy that $200 unit, and see where it will lead you.
You are not being asked, nor is anybody here being put in the position of finding issues simply for us to find the issues. Have you ever looked at all the states and the roads in this country and Canada? The information out their is vast. Take OH, they put up a detour around Cleveland, yet it is not a permanent route yet, RM gets slammed for a detour? The official web site for ODOT has this showing as a detour.
More money than you think has been spent in this unit for coding, design, testing.... RM have professional truck drivers out their doing beta testing and sending in the issues they find.
I came on this forum as the lead beta tester to give you the professional driver a means to talk directly to RM about this unit. I do not see other navigation companies offering the same.
I drove for over 3 years, I know that everyone thinks of the professional driver as dirt under the rug. That is why I am making the BOLD move and offering my knowledge of this unit to MY fellow professional drivers.
Yes, I hold a current CDL.
Now it seems like I am "making it look like" to you. Well, if you cannot look at what I am doing for professional drivers, then you must not feel the same about those drivers you pass each day, the ones at shippers/receivers, truck stops...etc..
I request that you read all the pages under this thread.
Thanks,
Mark
