Since you have a Mac.. the TND Dock does not support it right now unless you are running a MS shell.

But, We do have a work-around... would require you to have a 2gb SD card and a SD/USB adapter... files will be send to you.. zipped about 20mb.

I have a tester that does his updates and he has no problems... Basically we are just moving the files from the SD card with a SD Flash, does not bother your user folders..

    Thanks,
    Mark

you will get an E-mail with a big download button.... just download the file and save it somewhere on your computer...then run it...

be sure to un-installl or go to programs and find the folder Rand McNally and delete it..

on the top row... 2nd from the right is the button you would find the version of the TND Dock.. Ver 1.0.45.0 caused some errors.. so they had to take it off the server and should be ver 1.0.46.0 or higher now..

    Thanks,
    Mark

Ok lets see. I have VirtualBox installed on the MAC. I run XP within that and seem to have no issues with any connectivity especially USB . I also have an SD/USB adapter I had to buy from verizon to load my cell phone, since the MAC didnt recognize that either...The only thing I dont have is any spare SD cards but I can get one, they are cheap enough....

I would actually prefer not to have to run virtualbox to get to XP to then update the TND...and think I got the skills to do the workaround

    :biggrin_25520:

I'm excited about ordering this. I likely will pull the plug tomorrow and get it direct from RM online.

the workaround is simple...just download the files I send you and unzip, move to the sd card and then take the external sd card out of the unit and put the flash sd card in...

send me your E-mail via pm and I can send you the procedures, that way you can have them on hand..

note,, the screen shots from the Mac were send to me..so some of the wording may be different in the menu's..

    Thanks,
    Mark

Looking at the manual there is supposed to be an option on the unit for qwerty keyboard or abc there is no option on my unit. did RM remove it?

I bought mine and had the problems getting it to me, as posted previously. All that aside, I went to run the update, and it will not do so running Windows XP through VM Ware Fusion. Was told by a woman at RMN that I need a computer that will BOOT in Windows. WTF? I am running Windows XP, and every other Windows program seems to work just fine with it. So, I decide to try to partition the HD so I can run Boot Camp, and boot Windows. Not enough space on my HD to give a big enough partition.
I like the idea of loading it all onto a flash drive card. I need to get one, and a reader.
But, this brings me to the other problem. Why does it constantly want to route me on the secondary roads? I have the settings set to allow freeways, but it tried to route me on all side roads across I80 in NV and I84/86 in Idaho, and could not find a truck legal route, between Wells, NV and Billings, MT, even though I run that truck legal route every month. Up I15 to US20, to ID 87 to MT87 to US 287 to MT 84 to US 191 to I90. I wanted to route me OFF of the interstate, onto secondary roads, all the way across Nevada and Idaho. I finally had to "Cancel The Route". Also, it does not give any POI info on truckstops or scales. I have, 8 times been parked in a truckstop, and asked it to find one near my location, and it said there were none. Furthermore, it does not know where ANY scales are. I have passed a dozen, or more scales in the past week, and it doesn't know where any of them are. I had to "Save this location" to get it to remember the Laurel, MT Port. The device can't find that route, those truckstops or any scales? And because I cannot run the dock, I can't give the feedback to RMN.
I have called RMN 4 times. Once, (about 4 weeks ago) I got a woman who said she would call me back THAT DAY. I am still waiting for that return call, even though I have called 3 more times and left messages. Not enough courtesy to return my calls? I have learned more about what I need to do, from this thread, than I have from the folks at Rand. That's NOT a good sign.
Needless to say, I am not a happy customer. Someone needs to have enough professionalism to return my calls, or I will send it back and ask for a refund, so I can buy the Cobra, or Goodyear device.
Sorry folks, I can't recommend this device. For only having it for a month and a half, I have had FAR too many troubles with it.
On the positive side, I took it with me to Kauai, and it directed me around Kauai, pretty well, BUT, even though I had in in the CAR mode, it kept telling me there were no truck legal routes to get to the places on the island I wished to get to.
Apologies for the bad syntax, I kept having to go back and ADD more complaints I have with the unit.

Doc, on the main page, go to bottom left preferences, device settings, scroll down to about... what version are you on?

if you are on 1372, then you need to be upgraded.

I can get you upgraded, you would need an internet connection, an SD card (1 gb or 2gb).

I would send you a zip file, you would unzip and place on the SD card, the insert the SD card into the unit. It will flash the unit to the correct version.

I have another Mac user also on VMware fusion, he found an update (well hidden on their webpage), but he ended up reloading xp again (1st load did not go right), his TND Dock works.

He is able to see the TND via the USB Cable and move the files accross.

Let me know the version you are on and if you wish me to help you.

I have forwarded your comments to Rand, and their head of tech support.

Thanks for your input and honest opinions.

    Mark

RM has one user whom is running Win 7 and another running XP, plus one running the Flash update option. All are running fine. Your Mac does not have to boot up in Windows.. if you run the MS Shell, the Mac will "see" the TND via the USB and you can use the TND Dock.

If you prefer to Flash the Unit, you would simply need an SD card (1gb or 2gb), I have gotten a 4 gb to work and an SD\USB adapter.

Unzip the file I send you and copy to the SD card, then insert in the TND and let it Flash. (Procedures have been written to help you along in this)

If you need help RM has several dedicated Mac beta testers and they would be happy to assist.

The Flash takes about 10-15 minutes and most of that is the file download depending on your internet connection.

If any questions/comments about using a Mac, please feel free to post or send me a PM. Unless I am sleeping or doing a road test, I will respond promptly. (meaning with a hour or two at the most).

    Thanks,
    Mark

I have been using a Garmin non truck GPS for several years and decided after reading about the RM Truck GPS to purchase it. I just got it this last week while I was on vacation and had some time to play with it before I use it in my truck.

One of the reasons I purchased this unit was because RM does seem to be paying attention to the driver via the feedback from the unit and this forum. I hope RM continues to do this and I will be sure to give my 2 cents.

I have used the unit in my car and followed the truck routes provided. It did a very good job even through some small towns with complicated truck routs in Medina Ohio. When I made a wrong turn on purpose I did not agree with how it wanted me to correct my mistake but that is where a driver must use common sense.

Some questions and comments I have so far on the unit.

    - When the unit is re-calculating a route it shows this on the screen but is there a way to get an audible notification as well? This is useful to know without having to look at the screen.

    - The multi stop trip planner is something I will use as I usually have 3 or more stops with each load but I can not find a way to see the detailed directions for the entire multi stop trip is there a way to do this? I want to make sure the GPS and I agree on the best way to make the entire trip without needing to stop and play with the GPS in traffic. It appears to me that I can only see the detailed directions for the first leg of the trip. I want to be able to plan in detail the entire trip.

    - Would like to be able to add at least one Via point without setting up a multi stop can I do this?

    - Is there a MAX speed record anywhere? Excellent feature of my old Garmin. Got me out of ticket when I was accused of going 70 in a 60 on a flat road in a truck that is goverened at 62.

    - I need to purchase a new Atlas. What atlas exactly does this unit refer to when it give you a page number. I assume it is the standard RM Motor Carrier 2010 atlas but I like to use the spiral bound. Is there a way to do this?

Sure I will have more questions after this week. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Steve
