Some do. For many it is in the form of a QualComm unit. QualComm with written directions is very common standard issue in many company rigs and to many leased Owner-Ops as well. QualComm with GPS capability is in test and I believe will be their next generation as well. Some companies also buy multiple hand-helds to outfit their drivers and reduce out of route miles and accidents. So yes, some do. Depends on the company. My experience has been so far (those coming to us anyway) that it's the smaller companies (5 - 25 trucks) with a close-nit driver crew doing this more than a huge company with hundreds or thousands of drivers. Of course, the more they buy, the less they pay per unit.

EVERYTHING is tax deductible if you want to make any money. Any driver (especially owner-ops and independents) should know exactly their cost-per-mile, profit per mile per load, and to write off anything even remotely legal on their taxes. And a GPS is a totally legal write-off as a tool.

If you find that option somewhere, let me know.:biggrin_2559:

    Map updates.

Thats a hard question to answer.

If it was done, say 2 or 3 times a year, Download would be my first choice. The down loads would need to be a reasonable size so not to kill a wireless type of connection.

I would think the files would be compressed to make them small as possible.

If it is a once everyu 12 to 16 months, then I think I would want some form of "hard copy"

Cost would also play into it.

When I did updates on my Garmin unit, I could download the update. The cost was a bit high I think # $59.99. It seems that they are now offering a few new "levels" of updates. I could do a one time for $50 bucks or a lifetime for a one time charge. I think my unit was $99.00, then it said it would only guarantee to have updates for my unit for 3 more years.
Some units had higher charges, based on what "extras" the unit had.

With this being a new unit, considering all that has gone on, I would think the first one should be free.

    Mark,

My T5C does have an SD card slot. It just didn't come with a card. Is this a dummy slot or can a card be used for more memory in the future? Also, while I was online last night an icon popped up at the bottom of my computer screen that said new updates are available. Is this the case and if so does RM have the issues resolved with updating the T5C?

    Thanks

External slot on the T5C is not used, they simply used the same housing, future use - ?

T5C is good to go to update via the TND Dock,,

    Thanks,
    Mark

I've only been using the TND 500 for 4 days and I'm already spoiled. The re-routing for missed turns, unexpected construction etc. is a lifesaver. I almost went into panic today when I tried to enter Mount Crawford VA. It wasn't listed. Now I gotta use written directions and the atlas :biggrin_25521:. ha ha! Theres a Wal-Mart DC located there so it'd probably be good if RM would add it in there. I sent the info to RM.

Yep, Im liking mine too, sent a few issues to RM this evening, speed limit feature still needs some fine tuning.
Also, suggested to them to make it able to either turn the screen brightness down some more OR turn it off completely and still be able to hear audible directions. And would like to be able to see the entire trip on a multi-stop trip, and be able to see miles remaining to next stop as well as total miles remaining. But over all very happy so far.
