Getting burned out on the dock work over at FedEx. Then FXF quit all those customers which happened to be one of the largest customers at the small EOL I work out of. Losing that customer means less trailers which gets me stuck in the local Chicagoland BS a lot more. I have decided to stay where I am at and not go to OD. I just did not get a good feeling from the interview. Yes, it was great when the SCM manager was telling me there linehaul drivers don't work the dock. The pay was a tad higher than FXF and pretty much the same insurance coverage. Same 401k match too. This terminal was not far from where I work now so we run the same lanes. Basically doing the math a 320 mile run would pay less than 300 bucks with OD. The same run at FXF with 3 hours on the dock and 2 drop and hooks pays about 400. OD only pays 6 bucks for a drop and 6 bucks for a hook. I get paid 30 mins each drop and each hook. OD did have a few 600+ mile runs out of the barn I interviewed but 600 miles a night sounds miserable to me. I make a fortune on the drop and hooks at FXF. Last week I only ran about 750 miles with 18 hours on the dock but had 17 drop and hooks. Came in just shy of 1700 for the week for only working 45 hours. So Im just gonna stick it out where I am at. I do like me SCM and direct supervisor at my location and can basically get a day off whenever I want to. Plus all the guys above me are in there late 50's early 60's. Board will be moving sooner or a later.

I hate changing jobs and I’m very indecisive. I have not turned OD down just yet. I just rolled into the hub tonight thinking about how much I don’t want to work the dock and how nice it would be not to have to. I should of started a poll lol.

Morale is very low at Freddy industries. Dockworkers are calling off everyday and managment is having a difficult time hiring good drivers. Lately they started offering top rate for new drivers and some other locations offer sign on bonuses. I won't even say anything about our wonderful health insurance... cough cough United healthcare. People in jail or on welfare have better medical coverage than us. But hey what l do I know...
For the past few months some of us drivers have been coming in 2-3 hours before our start time to load trailers and then be able to leave on time. You can get as much OT as you want at the moment. Some drivers are pushing over 30 hours each week. Many linehaul runs available on Saturdays too....
I'm only here, because it takes make less than 15 minutes to get to work. Plus p&d dispatch works with me most of the time, he knows where I won't go with 48 footer and he doesn't send me to those places. Otherwise I would be outta here like a bat out of hell. All other good paying local gigs are 1 hour+ commute each way.misterG, LPjunior1970, jmz and 3 others Thank this. -
I forgot to add that all new drivers at my hub usually start out on graveyard shift working on the dock. (Every now and then they might throw a bone at you and send you to the rail yard or another hub that's like 100 miles away.) Yet they can't figure out why drivers with low seniority are quitting left and right.
