Question for those of you who pull sets of pups.

How often do you find nails and screws in your pup tires?

Maybe once or twice a month if you’re including the dolly.

If I pull out one or two in a day, that's a good day. I pulled three more last night.
It went to another level when I started pulling Cooper pups. I'm perplexed. Do other outfits clean up their docks better? Do their dockworkers not trash skids so much in the first place? Is running with nails a normal part of linehaul for everyone? Are people just not noticing?

It's funny. I don't think I've ever pulled a pup with less than 8/32 tread. They never live that long.

Hostlers by me have a large magnet hanging off the front end to pick up nails and other metal objects. I’ve only found a nail in the tire a couple times. Brought it to the shop and they pulled it out. Tire didn’t loose air so off I went.

We really need something like that. Right now the policy seems to be that hostler is supposed to get out and sweep. Not going so hot.

This was where my rear pup was docked last night. IMG_20230915_194530126_HDR.jpg IMG_20230915_194551111_HDR.jpg

That tends to happen when it’s the dock crew’s job to sweep peddle trailers and they decide not to, so a frustrated driver does it and everything winds up on the ground.

Step on one of those nails and we will see how fast this gets cleaned up.

How does that stuff even get that far away from the dock? We have piles of crap under the docks at my place too, but it rarely goes past the DOT bumper. Your pictures look like they're sweeping the dock out of empty doors so it can spread around everywhere.

misterG, Digman943 and Cardfan89 Thank this.
