No kidding we have a big Freighliner Bluetech dully van and a Ford 350 transit connect van.
I had the bigger van of the two.
It was hard work steering the van it was all weird I'm turning the wheel left wondering why I don't see the trailer going right!

It was like being a FedEx driver today like a parcel driver. Get to a stop hop out of the van run into the back grab a case and run it in get a signature and then scadadle to the next stop.

I found that when I'd come in off the road, and drive my pickup that a number of things would happen. First, and almost always, first time getting behind the wheel, knocking my head on the door frame. OUCH. Second, as Mike said, pawing for a nonexistent clutch. And third the backing problem. Fourth, swinging a bit wide on corners...

don't forget reaching for the jake.

or finally noticing (after like 50 miles) that there is a rear view mirror mounted in the center of the windshield. (now why is this thing here? and what does it do)

Backing up your tractor to put it away after driving a few days being hooked to a trailer is always an exercise in frustration. "why won't this thing turn the "right" way?

Ya, that's going to be my problem, I'm used to driving a large bus that is a solid frame, no break or 5th wheel, changes the game on backing up, plus as bus drivers, we aren't supposed to back up EVER, only in the yard.

Are you planning on getting a Class A (or whatever they call it up there)?

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

Taking turns wide, especially right turns in this big p/u I have now, is something that will never go away, at least not for me. But it's nice having a manual so that clutch isn't "non-existent".

I was considering getting the class A/1 if I can't find a job driving a class 3/C truck. I don't know why there has to be the difference in naming the license ability, but we have numbers up here and letters down there. I thought I would try my luck at applying for gravel truck jobs or concrete, garbarge truck, something that is tandum to start and if I have no luck, then upgrade myself to the class 1. It's a waiting game to see what's out there, but for me, that's not until around September.

Between school bus runs, I've driven a Ford E-450 V10 Triton SuperDuty cutaway as a school bus/handibus, 20 passenger. Like driving a cadillac compared to a 72 passenger school bus, luckily I can still use the rear view mirror to see out the back.

You would think he's going 1000 miles an hour in this thing, look at his forearms, WOW what a work out. Ya, makes me tired too to watch that. Look at the old panel and steering wheel, Old KW by chance. I see those old KW's on the road, with the round headlamps, so rough sounding and can't see the driver sunk down in the seat. ;)
