Random LTL Rants (all are welcomed)

    Yeah, dethrottle was what I was looking for not actively braking. Super annoying uphill. Distance warning is around 180 ft, I think. I try not to be a bumper humper so I don't see it often, and I don't have to deal with darting 4 wheelers much at night.

    Volvos are perfectly fine trucks. Just not for me. Try as I might, I can never get everything adjusted to my satisfaction and I end up uncomfortable all night. Might just be a day cab thing, but I never have enough leg room.

    The Volvos and Kw's aren't evenly distributed throughout the fleet. Some barns have lots, others none. Not sure why.

    I was supposed to start at 8:30am Today, but they changed to noon now. facepalm.gif gotta love it

    Well so turns out there going through a shift at GFS. They piloted Hyundai trailers down in Texas and I guess next year were getting a few brand new Hyundai trailers I guess, Great Dane isn't cutting the mustard anymore there not meeting GFS's specifications and Hyundai's are about $1,000 bucks cheaper so that'll be interesting. The new Volvo's coming in are all automatics the days of the stick and third pedal at GFS are over.

    Over the years GFS has always had Volvo's however, they always threw in another manufacturer here and there for mix. They had a lot of Sterlings in the early 2000s and they had Internationals mixed in with the Volvo's in the mid 2000s then for about 10 years they've been pretty much 100% Volvo, but I bet they end up buying a few Kenworths. I'm into conjecture and just like how Great Dane isn't quite cutting the mustard I bet Volvo is probably not quite living up to spec either and I bet they end up in a year or two down the road buying some Kenworths.

    I have this picture hanging in my basement I have it framed and everything.

    @Mike_77 I have to do a video of the pictures in my basement I have a couple good one's I have an old picture from CF that was a CF promotional photo taken by a professional photographer hired by CF. The actual picture was on the wall at the CF terminal in Pendalton, Oregon until they went out of business in 2002 and one of the old time line haul drivers got a hold of it.

    Anyhow you had the modern era Volvo's.

    Then you had the Internationals mixed in with the Volvo's for good measure in the mid 2000s.

    I had mixed feelings about these Internationals. They did have a better turning radius then the Volvo's and sometimes were kind of throatier, but they lacked in other areas majorly and I don't think were really taken care of very well. GFS did not like the Internationals and actually cancelled there Purchase Order with International half way through there order. All the Internationals I think now are pretty much out of the fleet at this point.

    That one with the white bumper didn't have a speed governor on it one day I looked down and I was doing 70 miles an hour and I went "Oh that's not quite right."

    I always admired the Canada B-Trains up in Ontario. There on the 401.

    Well GFS Canada is a totally different subject they don't even look like us in the US all the equipment is different and everything.

    Then you had the drop axle Sterling Era of the early 2000s. Those trucks from what I understand some were automatics and some were manuals. I guess they were equipped with fairly powerful Cummins engines, but the rest of them were just pure rubbish. The Sterling's were not received well by the drivers and had terrible turning radius and were just all around junk. GFS for many years was a big buyer of Ford trucks. They bought the Ford L9000 for as long as Ford made it and then switched to the Aeromax and then when Ford sold there heavy truck division to Chrysler and Chrysler started Sterling GFS went and bought Sterlings.

    However they always had some Volvo's and White GMC's.
