I was wondering like, why does this set of empty trailers still feel heavy and it defiantly is true, pups do pull way harder.

Well tonight was pretty good, I had a heavier set coming back, but not awful.

My first set out the tag trailer had 5,000lbs that was it 2.5 tons was the entire route. They could have fit the route in a van.

Actually I like being home during the day and don't mind this shift it's been actually pretty good and I like it better then I thought. I'm going to get some sleep now and then maybe go to the grocery store when I wake up.

But this was fun, I really don't want to go back to running routes LOL! I know right now our transit/shuttle is short people there are guys on vacation and guys out on medical leave which is why I was on transit all week, but it wasn't bad I liked it really. The money isn't as good as delivery, but it's not so much less either though and actually the money is as good as delivery if you have mediocre routes.

My routes are all heavy so I make better money, but transit all you have to do is take the longer runs or the harder runs or do some market places and stuff and you can make similar money.

What I like is the stress level is different. On delivery it's like your running around with a gun pointed at your head.

On transit the gun is pointed at your head, but the difference is the safety is on. Yeah you're going as fast as you can to get back to the yard, so there is that, but it's a different kind of stress it is a bit lower.

What's nice is not having to fight your load when trying to deliver I did not miss that one bit.

Ohhhh I have to go back to regular work on Monday I guess. Have to get back to throwing those cases so that means I'll have just a bunch of boring case throwing stories and nobody wants to read that.

Yeah I had more fun this week that's for sure, probably not supposed to say that, but it was fun I liked it and enjoyed working with all of you if you were in my area.

I told them call me next time you are short and I can come out and make it as long as it's okay with my boss.

We have a couple of these dollies:
These are old 2004 Silver Eagle Converter Dollies.
We have a few of them circulating around. They are way heavier duty and heavier built then our new dollies.

Eyelit on these and the cast metal is way heavier and thicker then our newer units. I had 2 of these yesterday and they were a little harder to unhook the one when I went to unhook it was caught on the pintel hook of the trailer in a weird way. Eventually I was able to get it freed, but it was a job. Those converter gear are heavier and built thicker then the newer gear. I don't think there a different model, I think the construction is different the chains on the newer one's do not have the real thick heavy hook.

Anyhow that's about all I have on that.

Do you guys use any two-axle dollies? Every now and then I'll see one of those suckers at my yard and I get sore just from looking at it.

From 1968-Early 2000's this was the style of converter GFS used. It is a two axle single tire converter. Very odd ball piece of equipment.
    gfs_trailer.jpg
These converters the pro's with them were they distributed weight a little bit better and they tracked straighter and were a little bit more stable.

The con's were they were impossible to move around by hand and were an abject pain to maneuver into position in some of the yards.

I think around 2003-2004 GFS started transitioning away from this style of converter. Part of the reason may have been it's such an odd ball non-industry piece of equipment that they probably were not made any more or really hard to get. The warehouse I worked out of was opened in 2015 when we moved to that warehouse there were still a couple of these odd balls at the old warehouse and still around. But there are none of those at are warehouse's fleet.

There maybe still one around somewhere, but I think by now most of those have been phased out. All we have are the standard single axle dollies. For a long time GFS had all sorts of odd ball equipment drop axle tracotrs, goofy converter dollies that nobody else had. 2003-2004 they started getting away from all the goofy stuff. Anymore all are dollies are single axle.

One of our transit guys said "Yeah I think there was still one or two of the old style converter gears left up in Brighton, but we didn't take any of those with us to Imperial, thank god those old things were a pain anyhow."

im assuming your asking about local. its pretty good the only thing you have to deal with is the terrible Trailers that we have most of them are swing doors. tractors are some what decent 90% of the fleet is automatic with A/C and ELD . after you get the flow of how the equipment is youll be fine.....dispatch is whatever since this isnt my first driving job and they know i dont put up with bull #### or doing a 18k pound pick up and wanting me to move it around for the rest of the day .....

Where are you currently working ? you need a job ?

my friend is running 11 west and loves it and hes taking home 1,200 week after taxes
