Welcome to freight...Drivers get lazy, or a time crunch on the dock, especially if its coming from a hub. Or just a moronic dock worker..You guys probably have a lot of bitter guys with the last contract who don't give a crap( just like other companies) and will tear the customer's freight up out of spite. That used to drive me nuts. Treat the customer's freight like its yours...Every skid. I have seen some loads out of places where you think they used used a D9 and just rammed it in..How can common sense not tell you that a heavy pallet makes no sense on top of a lighter pallet.

Im constantly surprised when you freight folks of today mention pallets--when I did freight(I know--before electricity--LOL)It was unheard of--in the year i worked casual ouuta the hall--worked for most of em on the dock--and then my 3 years w/Big R (till I came to my senses)pallets were out of the question---once they hit the dock off local trl--they were all stripped to be loaded on outbound linehaul--it was 95%capacity back then or the load DID NOT move----probably why there was always a 45ft trl in a door somewhere--dedicated to OS&D---LOL

NONE of our stuff gets stripped off the skid, per customers orders. Most have stickers right on them saying do not remove from pallet.
-
They strip stuff at UPSF just to stack stuff
Marksteven Thanks this. -

OD never stripped or stacked stuff from what could tell...never really worked the dock there. Everything was decked from what I could see on occasion. (All of their pups are deck trailers.)
-
When I worked for Roadway (when it was still Roadway) we would break down pallets and pack those trailers till the doors barely closed! Not all of them but there were a lot.

I too am not good at loading trailers. I really enjoy breaking but loading is a different beast. Load'em high and tight! I guess loading will come eventually.
Also, on the camera situation. When you open or close a trailer at Con-Way you must take a picture with your handheld. This is really a great idea and only takes a minute or so and CYA or shows you didn't load it very well.
