It does annoy me when people say you have to do OTR for a year before even thinking about getting a local job, but to be fair it can be hard depending what part of the country you live in. Someone living in rural Louisiana is going to have a lot less options than someone living in Chicago.

Yea I completely understand that there are some rural areas where finding a job can be tough but nobody takes that into consideration. There was a thread on here a lil bit ago with a guy asking about work in Orlando. "Gotta do your year otr for a mega". Orlando is like the food service capital of the world lol. I see more us foods, Sysco, pfg, and gfs trucks on I-4 than anything else lol.

I’ve only done LTL line haul with a short stint doing local work for Airgas. Sooo glad I never went the OTR route starting out.

I feel like guys get stuck in a rut when they run only otr from the beginning. "I'm not doing that much work" "I'm not backing into parking lots" then cry about never being home, working for free, crappy truck stops, low pay, etc. I know there are very good otr jobs out there and plenty of guys that love it but they seem to be getting fewer and farther between yet nobody considers any other type of work.

    How about this one...
When doing P&D, have any of you ever had a customer ask you to ask another one of your regular delivery customers to unload and sign for their freight???
This has happened to me a couple of times, in which I reply; "I can't ask someone else to be responsible for the shipment that you ordered."
Granted I have done this, but only when it's been pre-arranged by the two customers beforehand.
LOL! I don't get the nerve of people sometimes! They order something and have no idea how they are going to go about recieving it...

OMG, You just CHANNELED (Wine Beginnings) here in Superior, WI.

That Switch with a broom stood in front of me and called my dispatcher, because she DIDN'T pay for inside delivery.
But demanded that we do it, because the last driver did.
From the last company, who delivered to her (they don't do that account anymore)..refused to deliver to her.

OR, that you'll magically have a liftgate for their 6x6 deer stand. To lower it to the ground.
Or will take inside, the contents of the skid of tile they ordered online from Lowes or Home Depot or Menards. Or will haul inside and ASSEMBLE the desk they ordered online.
( I used to build office furniture, it can suck, depending on how cute the customer is). But, I don't do that anymore.

Plenty of times. Dock would be jammed up at a business and they would just have me leave it with someone else (usually in the same building).

Super childish rant. New guitar was delivered today to my wife's work and now I don't wanna go to work so I can play it tonight.
