Hey just need to get some feed back on these two radios. I'm putting the order in tonight. The connex 4600 turbo I'm familiar with and know its performance. Positive or negative feedback on both radios would be appreciated. I have a connex 4300-300 in one tractor and would like to know if the Ranger is similar in performance. I would just buy another b/c both are close in list price but I have a very good deal on the ranger. But I've never owned one so if anyone has used or currently use this ranger let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Ranger 69ffB4 & connex 4600 turbo?

I don't own the 69FFB4 but have several earlier models. I use a 2970DX-150 now with audio board for echo reverb, and a talkback circuit. It's been a great talking radio for me, and is usually one of the loudest on the band when I need it to be. I've run it in my trucks for about 8 years and it has been rock solid. This 69F model looks like a real heater for sure. I'm not sure I'd be able to use it in my truck though, not at least with the power swinging to 400 watts. Whenever I get above about 200 watts I begin to fry other electronics from the RF field. I fried a tripp-lite inverter, and also a dash cluster. Key it up and watch the instruments and idiot lights go wonky. After the cluster took a dump I decided to turn the power down and not ruin something more expensive, like an ECM.
Good luck on your purchase, I hope you like whatever you end up getting. -
Ranger is a better radio. Con is a great radio also. I use Magnum Delta Force.

My old 2950 was/is my favorite. It stays at home cause I couldn't stand to lose it.... Bill Good out in Ontario did the work on it, and it's pretty sweet..... since Bill passed I retired the radio... have a piece of junk Cobra in my Western Star cause I hardly ever turn it on....

I'm just watching, but maybe this belongs in the radio part of this forum. I have a Palomar in case I need it. Almost never use it.

I'm running a connex 4600 turbo right now, I've had it for a year with no problems. I'm using a astatic 636 mic, Procom co-phase coax with kaliber ends, 2 monkey made mm9 antennas. The antennas tuned at 1.2 on ch. 1 & 40, 1.1 on ch. 20 with MFJ analyzer, and I of course ran the radio straight to the battery. I can get out at least 35 miles radio to radio at night and during the day when skip is rolling I make DX contacts all over the country including the Bahamas from Utah. I bought it from Bells CB in Florida and had them do a standard alignment peak and tune. I get a lot of flowers with this radio, I'm told its crystal clear and very loud. It does NOT bleed all over the band, it is a very clean radio. If these radio's are tuned correctly ( I.E. Not removing limiters and over modulating ) it will sound good and last longer. This set up is in my 2013 freightliner cascadia. I have been looking into the RCI 69FFB4 and from what I've been able to find out its a monster! The only down side I can see is the echo can only be adjusted internally. However you can get an aftermarket board installed with the duel controls placed on the side next to the mic plug.

Easy answer I like connex but the ranger is the better radio.

I'm not sure the ranger is the "better" radio, it's different and it does have more features like SSB, SWR meter, dimmer, frequency counter and of course 480 watts AM power! To be honest this Ranger is my dream radio. It's a small fortune but worth it if you have the cash. The connex 4600 turbo has good power, 220 watts AM and great audio! It is pretty much a bare bones radio, but IMO good value for the money. If someone walked up to me and offered me one or the other free of charge? The obvious choice would be the Ranger 69FFB4! I will own this Ranger one day!!
