Rate comparison between own authority and Landstar

    To me 2014 was OK but you could tell it was a year in decline. From my perspective the really kick ### rates were 2012 and 2013. Did so many "open checkbook" loads back then I thought that's just how it was. Had regular round trip stuff around home paying $1200 on a 400 mile round van load. It wasn't hard to haggle rates at all. Had people calling me a liar and saying it was not possible but it wasn't just me I knew several guys doing the same kind of thing. In peak you could really see a dramatic dropoff from 2013 to 2014 with Amazon which was a big money maker for me. It was there in 2014 and the rates were good but it was getting gobbled up by more and more carriers for less and there wasn't as much of it. The trend was there already. 2015 didn't just suddenly drop off a cliff. Even so I didn't see it coming. Hindsight is always 20/20.

    If you compare the programs it's LS > SNI, I don't think SNI is bad and that'll be the first place I would apply too if LS canned me but LS van program is just superior. Negotiable rates, Bigger pump discounts, etc....

    I've gotten SNI loads that Rollin Coal likes to call "open checkbook" 3 or 4 times here in the last couple of years.

    What we do is nothing new, in fact even when I was on a dispatch system at another company the same system worked well and made money, the problem was getting a dispatcher to sustain the short loads back to back. Chances are small you will succeed if you simply try to copy someone else. You can take an idea, but then you have to adapt it to you.
