If that what makes you happy go for it I'd never make $.20/mi I'd drive for someone before owning a truck

if done right you can make some nice money on street turns, we did them all the time where I used to work..
inbound freight from port to point B - you charge round trip.
find export freight for the empty container and return it to port loaded - charge another round trip
so you got 2 round trips out of one or 1 1/2

--once the container is empty , if a customer needs that particular steamship line and size you reuse that container for outbound freight

Yeah I don't make .20 a mile. I'd be driving a school bus for 22k a year if it was that bad. My wife makes the $$ and what I profit goes into a 401k. I'll be retired when I'm 45 if not sooner.

Street turns are amazing, but some ship lines rates suck.

For example tomorrow I have a load going 72 miles from my yard and I'm reloading that same container at the same place and the load is going back to the port which is a 78 mile drive, 270x2=540 drayage + FSC @.20% =108 + 80 Truck recovery fee=728 on 150 mile round trip. I can't stress enough how much I love street turns

yeah I have a load that is 56 miles round trip, pays 230. Gotta bring it back to the depot though. Mondays at the rails suck for most but containers arnt the best pay but you can make some money.

I do both rail and port, but I gotta say the rail yards out here a relatively easy to deal with the ports on the other hand are very random sometimes you are in and out in 15-30 min sometimes 4 hours like I said very very random

My cousin had a deal with a transloading facility in Terminal Island , he would bring in their oversize loads to the port. I mean 10 miles at the most , that's all he would do all day every day and he did ok.

I do that now working for a good company last week I brought in 3226 total in cash flow and spent 700 fuel I cut my self a check for 800 and 475 of that for taxes on my pay and the rest for company and repairs I ran pretty hard but was making money would say working about 12 hours a day to 14 .. I am running ports in newark... That week was amazing money hope every week can be like that... But the ports wear you down sitting in those lines...
