Back in 1988,.. I was doing 24 hour call towing. I was paid 30%.

    Rates were,..

    Tow,..

$35 just to show up. Even if I didnt do anything.
$50 for any kind of service,.. jump start, lock out, change tire, out of fuel etc.
$3 mi for first 10 mi, $2 mi after that.
Winch out. $10 for every 10 foot of cable pulled out. I had almost 500 ft of cable on my drum.

Winter rates were pretty much double on all rates.

    That was just for cars.

Heavy tow and equipment hauling was much more.

Im thinking the same thing! 1100.00 a week was good money back then when a gallon of milk was under 2.00 and rent was 250.00 or less a month!

When was rent under 250 a month? Today A ####hole efficiency apartment around me is about 800. My first crappy 1 bedroom apartment was over 600.

If we're going to assume this ad is from late 80's to early 90's I was buying for $225 a month 2 bedroom 2 bath. The apt before I was in that was $300 for 3 bedrooms

In 1989 we were renting a 5 bedroom two story farmhouse with basement, 2 car garage, barn and several small utility sheds, on 200 acres of nice pasture grass, creek running through back yard, 150.00 a month! ;)

ETA: place was probably worth 500.00, but was a farm where the old folks had passed and it had become investment property, so the low rent was basically payment for upkeep. When we would look for a place to rent, we would just drive the country, find a vacant house, write down address and power pole number, call power company for contact info then call the owners, worked real well!

Rent in Orlando is now 2/2 900-1500
NYC I'd say double. I guess 250 was living in the Midwest I'm sure it's prob cheaper than both

I was reading those rates thinking that was cheap and then I saw it was for cars lol. I remember paying $200 for a jump start at the Hess terminal in Bogota NJ in 96. Naturally it was late at night and not a soul around

I turned 18 back in 1985 and moved to Fla. Rent in the Wash DC area was hit or miss,.. but like a 1 - 2 bdrm apt was anywhere from $350 - $500 month depending on location.

I left and went to Ocala Fla and my first place was a rat hole 2 bdrm 12x60 trailer in a park called Golden View Estates. Make it sound all fancy and ritzy place to come stay in Fla. Till I saw what it was.

Anyway,.. Rent there was $50 a week,.. everything included,.. except cable TV and no phone. 2 months later I moved with a buddy and we rented a 2 bdrm duplex that was really nice for $275 month. All utilities included,.. except phone. But cable TV, electric and had a guy come every other week doing the lawn and bushes. Funny thing I was moaning about $75 more a month if my buddy decided to move out. LOL To put things into perspective,.. you could fill a grocery cart full of steaks and all kinds of excellent nom noms for just under $100 back then. Less if you had a frugal GF with coupons. Same cart today is easily $275 - $325.

Ended up in all kinds of trouble in Fla back then. They had a saying,.. come to Fla on vacation,.. leave on probation,.. come back on violation. I did all that before I was even 19 yrs old. God bless America!
