Nixon ended the limited international gold standard that still remained in 1971.CAXPT, Rideandrepair, exhausted379 and 2 others Thank this. -
Did it ever seem odd to anyone that on September 10, 2001 Don Rumsfeld noted that the Pentagon had "lost track of $2.3 Trillion" then the next day everyone kind of forgot about that because there was bigger news? Or why did the US Join the Bank of International Settlements in '94? Because they can hide money and they have sovereign immunity? What happens when they quit printing currency for good and everything you have is vapor loot and it's controlled by AI and some undisclosed entity? I may be the only guy that wonders about this, you know..... they are just looking out for our future, right?

As more and more people use credit cards, venmo, Google pay, apple pay, etc the convenience of those things erodes support for printing money. I'm guilty of it myself always using my debit card and seldom carrying any cash. The only way to "resist" is to continue using paper money as much as possible. That's all you really got. And it may not be enough. There's already several European countries where practically no-one uses cash and they view cash as obsolete. Perfect slaves.

I use paper as much as I can, but can't for traveling. Many of the people I know only deal in cash. There are seeming two economies. People are dropping out of the one and into the "work for cash quietly" programme. Me, For old car hobby stuff and a lot of that, we have cash. If we see something, especially car or boat stuff, we are more likely to think carefully before we hand over a wad of cash. It's too easy to click on a link and get whatever you saw and pay for it later. My wife and I buy what we can and really want or really need, and pass on a lot of stuff we don't. We do a pretty good job of keeping debt low. And as of right now, the dryer is broke so I have a $150 motor coming and I learned my lesson with new appliances. The A/C just quit and a bunch of expensive home repairs, on top of the taxes we just had to pay. That's life. And I still love this country, more than any other. Life is really good.
