The crashing of truck rates has reached a new low.

Rail customers are turning to trucks now being trucks are moving loads for so CHEAP!

Truck rates are probably part of the equation, but the railroads are also having a hard time filling crews. They’re to the point now of trying to get the government to allow longer trains and one man crews. BNSF recently lost quite a few employees over their new hi-viz attendance policy that penalizes employees for taking days off.

The extra volume coming over from trains certainly hasn't stopped truck rates from falling.

I have seen more container loads on the boards recently.
Have yet to haul a single one this year, you can guess why

Then that tells me that it’s not “extra” volume. It’s just volume coming onto the spot market and there’s not enough of it to really affect the load to truck ratio of the guys living off the load boards.

A friend of mine is an engineer for BNSF. He's close enough to retirement to make it worth staying but he says it's a lousy place to work now. BNSF wanted a lot of people to resign and they got their wish. Now they have a base for moving to single operator crewing.
