Once you get into a routine it's 2nd nature. Takes all of 10 minutes to upload a POD, DVIR, and receipts

You just never know who's being behind the computer. My wife has a minor in math. It takes her about a week ( or I should say three days) to balance the whole year.
While it's not easy to keep numbers in your head at all times since you are spending constantly, balances on the card weekly show your spendings on the road just to run plus whatever month payments are due. Maintenance can putt off balance. But that's for all, not just a few.
And now with the rates going down, all the ones who were chasing money and getting jet skis in the meantime have bigger problems than me. I don't consider myself smarter than others. All depends on luck too.
I have to deal with expenses like everyone else. And if some are more lucky than me, then be it. I can only do best as it fits my business to survive. I opened two years ago. And NO. I wasn't planning to spend a lot of time on islands resting my ### somewhere. I knew it's going to be tough a few years. I can only cross my fingers I'll keep floating and make my payments right now.

Yes for sure on that. No reason to deal with that.

Yep. They always spend more time on something.

I never understand why shops do this. With honesty you will get a lot more work. I think most get used to selling stuff to dealers and forget about the little man.

I keep things a bit differently. I can look at the spreadsheet to see how many invoices were paid in any given month. I see who paid and who owns. I have two dates, one for the invoice date, one for the payment received. I can get the balance paid in one minute in a given month. So, it's easy to do that. With receipts, there are different categories. I like to place them into categories at the end to see the whole picture where the money goes. The balance on the credit card shows how much usage there was. The only time I'm not using a credit card are major repairs at the shop.
But I might be able to maybe even make it better as suggested. I will try first by my first quarter this year, closing March. Then I will try to do it every month as suggested. I usually put receipts into the envelope on road trips. But I might do better making sure all receipts are counted for. You buy stuff when you off the clock as well. And maybe seeing it by month and quarters would make it better. Thank you

    Yep.
I smell something funny. I don't know if it's because I drive a USED truck they always do that to me. With used trucks, things are coming out. So, I don't know who to trust. I understand USED costs more to fix. But it's weird, there is always something ELSE or EXTRA needed. I did change to a different shop this month.
I plan to try two different places this month and see how it goes.
