Can't link this freighwaves article but they claim that a "uptick" in freight has started with the new clearinghouse rules in effect....

Speaking for flatbed this week, the load volumes have been some of the lowest I've seen... Maybe all the Meth heads pull dryvan and reefer? :biggrin_2559:

Have you ever had a contract that explicitly stated "no posting of your truck"? Did the customer then compensate you on the lost revenue if you weren't allowed to post it?

I understand the exclusivity, but you might be leaving money on the table.

How were you able to sign legal documents without being the carrier?

Some brokers will add verbiage that explicitly states that even if anyone solicits the carrier it's still a no-go. Which is a real way of screwing the carrier because most of the time you have no ides who's really the customer.

Lots of times it's been the receiver for me. So the carrier could theoretically be approached by the shipper who isn't the broker's customer but the carrier doesn't know and turns down a revenue generating opportunity.

These BCAs really do have the carrier giving up so many things it's ridiculous. At some point lines must be drawn. I mean that literally.

I have edited many agreements over the years. I always tell them when I return the paperwork to give them a heads up so there are no surprises.

Have I lost business that way a couple times? Sure. However, I'd rather run for a customer that's not looking to screw me as their sole objective.

Let's be honest. That's exactly what those seriously brokersided agreements are. They say, "we're going to screw you hard the first chance we get" without ACTUALLY saying it.

Not going to lie. I've played the kickback game to get direct good paying freight in the past. Worked out really really well for me. When everyone is competing and being essentially equal it will always fall back on money. Everyone wants a piece of the pie.

I've never back doored the broker though. One of them I had to set up with the broker no matter what because the company hiring me made all their branches go through this broker mostly for invoice payments. Even edited the BCA with their acceptance.

I wouldn't break an agreement to anyone unless it was something out of my control. That includes brokers. I'm not a broker hater. They bring much to the table for a one-truck-Chuck and my word is my reputation. It's made me lots of money and friends.

A word to another man with soul is sacred to me too.
It is not only naive but surreal to take it literally on the business side, especially with carrier - broker set ups, where you find agreements and "agreements". You said yourself, many of those are one sided impositions. If they get too much in the way, I'll go around. I bet all of you would do the same, seeing what you can avoid or gain. I yet to see such saints in real life as some of you paint yourself to be. Where the hell are you, when the push comes to shove ?! You all pack up your #### and drive for Walmart? I am still here...

It is different to discuss something theoretical and acting on it in real life.

I realize, I entered the club of mutual adoration. Things I said were disapproved of unanimously. I was even called an idiot and scumbag. Well, so be it. I accept it. But I am not changing my stance. You guys go on. I am done.

I'm with LS. I parked the step deck and grabbed a company Van last week. Yeah open deck is slow, most the time gets slower this time of year. Until early March?

Imo the articles are talking heads. Van freight normally goes up this time of year leading into the holidays.
