80% of that 80% is from India. So I don’t really see the problem

Not sure how you're reading that, but what I read, is that the Canada to USA freight, is handled 80% by Canadian truckers, meaning to me, American truckers aren't going up there to pull freight down, even as a backhaul...the reasons are many but from what I've heard, one of the reasons for deadhead out of Canada, is the onerous Border shipping and the timing requirements...meaning timing for transmissions of documents, proper code..etc. You have to have the load approved, a certain amount of time, so when you get there...blah blah blah. Not to mention the nightmarish inspections by Customs over there. Correct me if I'm wrong.

On the flip side, they mention there is no problem with USA to Canada freight...meaning Canadians are hauling our freight into their country, probably 80% or better...pretty good setup. Make it hard for us to backhaul, but not for them to backhaul or haul freight from here to here..carbotage violation, I believe? Maybe that's why they're crying about it? It would seem that this is another one of those barriers or mechanisms to trade affecting American truckers unfairly, that the tariffs are perfectly designed to address. They're afraid their truckers will be subject to the same conditions our truckers have had to endure all this time, dealing with falling rates etc, that may cause a company to go under. Welcome to reality, Canada.

Any backhaul from Canada to the US by American trucks would be affected by US Customs clearance requirements, no different than any other shipment gping into the US regardless of the carriers nationality. any difficulty would be a result of US clearance, nothing to do with Canadian regulations.

Cabotage has always been an issue on both sides of the border, lack of enforcement is in my opinion the biggest problem there.

I am pretty sure the only difference is price. Canadians just always underbid US carriers.
I live near Detroit and see Canadian trucks on a daily basis, I feel like 80% of the drivers are from India or somewhere nearby.

Appreciate it. I never had to go over when I had my FAST card, so I never got to experience that process first hand. Sorry if I misspoke, and now that I've let my FAST card lapse, it's not a problem I'll have to experience now. I heard they dropped the jab requirement, but I had already made up my mind to drop it because of the prior requirement, AND the fact that I never had to use it for 10 years with anyone I was driving with. I used my TWIC card more than I did my FAST card, and even that wasn't that often.

I wonder if shipments from Canada to Mexico are exempt from tariffs. Must be. The last company I worked for does that. Steel Coils. They have an ad for a Local Driver now for Canada runs.

I was at the Loves near Canada north of Detroit. It was over half Punjab. At least it seemed like it.

That's obviously a new one on me, recently built. They're taking the Blue Water cross over at Port Huron. The Love's is in a pretty isolated area off the freeway so they're not affecting any neighborhood....yet. It's mostly trailer park homes on that side of the freeway and farmland.
