All I know is this thread has taken two or three weird left turns along the way. I suspect we've gotta get at least one more in so we can get back full circle, and talk about rates, or something.

I'm not gonna get into too much detail, cause I do have competition. We all know I only do dog food and bottled water, but I'd prefer not to have to compete for it.

Welcome to TTR. A thread isn't complete until it's been derailed.

    Another weird turn......
The Poconos have some cheap homes. I originally moved there from NJ in 94. I still have a couple of houses in PA I hold private mortgages on. I moved to NY State 2 years ago ,about a half hour from Binghamton and bought a small farm. The house is 4000 sq ft ,18 rooms total ,7 bedrooms ,3 baths,2 furnaces.
2 kitchens ,in nice condition ,also has a nice modern commercial shop with 200 amp underground service ,concrete floor and an office (Morton Building),another a 150 foot barn (Morton Building) ,2 smaller barns and a silo . It was originally 150 acres ,but I didn't buy all the land ,I'm not a farmer.
The same family owned it for 65 years . It was only on the market for 2 days when I bought it for $80,000, I thought they left a zero off but it was the right price. Friends and family from NJ can't believe what I paid for it . Where I grew up in NJ this would be any where from $500k on up.
The towns like Mayberry ,a little getting used to ,but we love it here.
What's it got to do with rates..... well.....
Good rates go a lot farther in a place like this.....Lol!

I was under the impression NEPA was the Philly area but apparently I was mistaken. Anyway...you made a wise decision, my friend. I never would have chosen NY but getting out of Jersey was probably the best move you could have ever made. You've done a great service to your kin as well. Beautiful family you have there too.

    Thank You..
NEPA is more the Poconos ,Scranton ,Susquehanna county etc.
I actually grew up in a nice suburban area in NJ,in central Jersey.
NJ gets a bad wrap because many people just drive through the state on the turnpike and see the industrial areas and never get to see North West Jersey, or the beaches down the Jersey shore . Now Many areas of North Jersey (Hudson, some areas of Bergen, and Passaic counties, Etc.)look like you landed in South America or other third world countries. I used to own a Pizza Place in Newark....That was a little dangerous.LoL! It's expensive to live there ,taxes and home prices are crazy.
Ny is similliar ,NYC,Long Island ,West Chester taxes and home prices are insane. I always loved the Catskills, the mountains, rivers, fly fishing etc. It's not Montana ,but it's one of the most scenic areas of the country.Been looking for a place like my farm for a long time. The only problem is I never want to leave ....LOl

The Appalachians trump Montana any day IMO. Better freight options too.

Now that we have entered the third quarter what are you seeing up in your region? Have open deck rates flattened off like it has down here?
