I'm in the same class with the guys above. I wasn't interested in the flatbed because 1) I'm too lazy 2) it gets cold 3) wet 4) or hot out there! Also Van is a place to start. Reefer would be great once I get the rest of this figured out, but I'll wait six months before piling more on top of the steep learning curve we're on.

and I'm all good with that. I'm sure I still may be elgible for an award of some sort but it cerainly won't be for best driver in the class.....maybe I will get the splitter trophyThe OSU and technoroom Thank this. -
You'll get the award for finding girls on the side streets in Marshfield, getting the trainer to stop for coffee or cigarettes and having the best HAT in class!
technoroom and goblue Thank this. -
i believe we are required to have 3-6 months of otr before we can ask for reefer division.
-
i DO have the best hat in class!
I never thought about those other awards...lolThe OSU Thanks this. -
To the OSU...Get your daily routine established with van. With refer not only do you have all the truck stuff but you also have to learn about refrigerated freight and the unit itself. Also figure out if your body can handle 2am deliveries, sit in a dock for 4-5 hours then find a washout so you can pick up that 8 am load. Lots of drivers like running refer. Pays more but you put up with more. Good luck

Yep...sticking with the van for now but will consider and review options next year. Got a passport card for Canada and will get hazmat when back in Ohio...anything else?

quick question, for the hotels that you guys are staying in, is it one person per room? Or are you guys sharing rooms?
-
you have the room to yourself....very private. includes a small fridge and microwave. cost for the three weeks is $400 and you pay that to Roehl on the first day. they make your bed/change sheets only on mondays. the room does not have towels, provide your own. the hotel is clean and neat, nothing fancy but certainly up to date and clean. has cable/flat screen, slow wifi but it works, small breakfast grab in the morning if you want it. The place has a big indoor pool and hottub too, i've hit the hottub a couple of times. On the weekends the local kids partys invade the pool area. The Roehl people from what I have seen are set in the back of the hotel. My classmates are in nearby rooms. Everyones usually pretty beat after class or has there own thing going on so in my experience there is not a lot of social stuff going on. Unless you are looking for a downtown hilton, i would say that a normal person would be very happy with the accomodations. Roehl has done a GREAT JOB setting this up.Bigdubber Thanks this.

I would reconsider getting a hazmat endorsement. I am actually going to take mine off when I renew my license here in a couple of months.
