Dude, out of curiosity, what were the mechanical issues that put that truck in the shop so much?

Great to hear you're back 'up & runnin'!!

Since the truck is now running, try for the General Mills dedicated account (if Werner hasn't screwed it up yet). Great account, drop and hook on both ends, dedicated dispatch AND shop/breakdown staff. Its the only reason I went back to Werner all those years ago. Down side was the pay sucked. It was .30/mi all dispatched miles back in the dark ages (2006-2007). When I went through, you had to know someone on the account to get it, hopefully that has changed over the years.

Another decent account was the HON office furniture account. Yes, you had to tailgate freight (basically hold it up so the clamp truck could get a grip on it) but the miles were good and the drivers weren't completely suicidal.

Avoid Dollar General and Dollar Tree. There is a reason why those accounts are always begging and scamming for drivers. Look around the terminal. See those drivrrs on "light duty" due to injuries? Dollars to donuts, those are all Dollar General or Dollar Tree drivers.

Usx has a DG account and asked me to do it. Said no. Constant turnover.
The trailers are packed to the brim and the driver has to separate EACH box.
DG should just start a fleet instead and assemble per store loads in bins like ups does for its overnight package deliveries.

Be tough to have his wife with him. Most Bulk outfits frown on it because the plants won't let them in.

I lost my condo with Shaffer. We are in a storage unit. I moved on to another company where some weeks I barley draw a check. Going to go local as soon as I can. Good luck.

Going local can be great (it is for me) or the worst decision of your life. Make sure you know what you are getting into and that the pay is fair for the work involved. As an example, I work flatbed truckload locally. My average load count per day (over the year) is two loads. Way better than hitting 15-18 docks a day swinging doors. Plus I get paid hourly whether I'm in the truck chasing a load or in the office at the same rate. I couldn't handle doing LTL P&D type stuff, I'm just not tough enough for all that work.

You said it, brsims. Many of the newcomers only picture "local" as being more like a "city or multi-county radius" P&D job.

The truth is, local can mean such a wide range of trucking jobs, that are as different as 25 stop inner city delivery with strenuous hand unloading...
versus... a job that has you making one daily 500 mile round trip to another state, with only 1 no-touch freight drop & hook.
    Wide variety, for sure.

You got it, Cajun. Too many drivers jump at the first local opportunity they see without checking the job out first. I was careful before I made the jump. Yes, I took a bit of a paycut, but the job satisfaction I get from helping the road drivers more than makes up for it.

Electrical short in the dash lights.
Airleak behind the dash afte short got fixed.
    Water in the fuel lines.
    Same electrical short again.
After short fixed a second time, they somehow managed to kill the air/heat in the sleeper.
    Water in the fuel lines.
    Same electrical short again.

Add to that needing to be jumped four times between the second week in Feburary to the first few days in March. Alternator tested fine. Batteries tested fine. Gra-Gar flunkies couldn't figure out the problem and gave me new batteries. The volts are still running on the low end while driving. I'm averaging 13.2-13.4. Maybe it's a Pete thing? I'm used to running at 14.1 in my old International.

Werner has completely blown my tolerance for
########. I've got feelers out and should be hearing back from my first choice of a new employer today. Decided to give Hirschbach a go after doing some research. More money. Nicer equipment. Newly revamped and pretty sweet, imo, driver retention program.
