Dropped it like how? Did you do what they said you did?

Paschall Truck Lines might be a little more forgiving than the others about dropping a trailer. Call and ask.

    Thanks, China.

Generic, I didn't drop the trailer. What happened was I was disconnecting the trailer when the wife called (this was before she was I the truck with me full-time), I had started lowering the legs and when she called, I paused and answered the phone. I then went to disconnect the lines and got back into the cab. I pulled slowly forward and heard a loud boom. I set the breaks and got out and realized I didn't finish lowering the legs all the way and saw that the trailer was resting on my frame. I put the legs in low gear and dropped them the rest of the way. I got back into the cab and dumped the suspension and tried to get back under the trailer but wasn't able to. I was at a company yard, so I called the shop and asked if they had a forklift, which they did. With a mechanic in the forklift and myself on the crank handle, I was able to raise the trailer the few inches I needed to get back under the trailer and get it lowered properly. The trailer never fell off my frame. The way I understand it, that's not a dropped trailer.

It's not but it is a screw up on your part, not judging, but the company does have a right to claim an incident. Especially if you told them about the phone call. I recognize how easily you can become distracted in your routine. It's happened to all of us unfortunately for you, you just made a mistake you couldn't fix yourself.

A good company wouldn't though. No harm no foul. Not like you had to call a wrecker and it cost the company nothing to fix that.

When I have to get under a trailer that's been dropped too low, I dump the air, put the frame under the nose, then walk around the yard to find blocks to put between the frame and the trailer. Shim it up, raise the suspension, and crank the legs down. Problem solved, and nobody else needs to be bothered.

This is also why I make it a point NOT to be on the phone while I'm working. There are too many things that can hurt you out there; I don't need to be distracted by a phone conversation.

Holland is Union as is Yellow...Owned by the same company and both in the same yard in Cincinnati. Insurance is covered in Union Dues. They have Line Haul which you are out all week and sleep in Hotels. City works the Doc's and does P&D.

I didn't say it was worthy of an incident I'm just saying they have a right. You have been around long enough to know that safety doesn't play no harm no foul. It doesn't work that way, come on now.

Well, I guess it's time for an update. Everywhere I've researched that I want to work won't take me. Lol. Learn from the mistakes right? I've got to fight the last reported issue on my DAC and wait for the other two to fall off. Costly, costly mistakes. That should have been something covered in school... then again, I did go to a CDL-mill.

Werner has made some efforts to retain me. I was offered a dedicated account offering fair mileage and a nickel more an hour. They've also placed me close to the top of the list for new equipment. While it's not what I'd consider to be ideal, it's the best in a ###### situation.

Regardless, thanks to everyone that's offered advice. I really like this career path, I just didn't expect that it would be so rocky of a start.

I scanned back thru the thread, but it seems you never mentioned any other incidents, other than the "dropped" trailer (technically not dropped, btw).
Well, if there were 2 more incidents, then we could have told you the chances of switching to a better company would be dismal.

The dropped trailer could have been easily remedied w/o need for the forklift or anyone else, had you been properly trained.
Windsmith (post #86) listed the exact solution, which I have also used on a few occasions.
(one I dropped on frame, as you did, and others where trailer was left too low to begin with).

Anyhow, thx for the update and perhaps the new dedicated account with a different truck will change things a lot.
Do your one year, or however long till your record is clean, then carefully make the switch to a better company. Good luck!
