That's good info by Flatbedcarrier.
Also be aware if the company your leasing on with is local to you and has any back solicitation rules in their contract you are shooting yourself in the foot!
That means everyone you take a load for through them you can not work directly for that customer without being open to being sued for damages etc.
They may also have the same agreements with their customers not directly hiring O/O's they previously dispatched to them.
I know starting your own company is exciting and you really want to get going but you are now a business owner and as such every decision should be for the benefit of your business.
Avoid anything that restricts you building up you own customer base.
You need to be patient and disciplined. I don't think that should be a problem given your previous career. Lol.

Great way to put it in perspective,
There was a non comp agreement in there a very broad one I wouldn't sign until it was fixed. The original was modified limiting me to non comp on his premium carrier only and I'm not the guy to try and steal his big player there's plenty out there.Foxcover Thanks this. -
I also wanted to confirm that the IFTA issue is for big trucks only is that correct
Heres what I am reading for requirements
DEFINITIONS:
Qualified Motor Vehicle means a vehicle registered in Texas
with two axles and registered gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding
26,000 pounds; or
having three or more axles; or
used in combination when the registered GVW exceeds 26,000
pounds.
26000 GVW being the key here -
Your welcome.
I can't stress enough though that you check their authority history. It can tell you a lot about the type of people you'll be affiliating yourself with. Hopefully their their safety rating is good, they've never had their authority revoked. In a lease you have to run their numbers on your door, and you have to be covered on their insurance. All it takes is them doing something shady and it could keep you from getting your own authority. Something as simple as a fender bender and they didn't have you on their policy.
I just did some research on safersys on a few people giving advice on the forum here and I found trashed safety ratings, repeat insurance cancelations, name changes, and revocations. -
Will you be running outside of TX at all? -
Once you sign that non compete you just shot yourself in the foot!
I will sign a non compete in another state to pick up a load going home but never around my locality.
There is plenty of work out there for everybody, just don't kill your direct opportunities close to home. -
The IRS EIN was very easy and they give you a number on the spot no waiting
-
If you go back and see post 6 & 16 it explains name changes, cancelation and revocation. Standard procedure when you go from sole prop to incorporated. As for the safety rating, well I think that's Garry being a petulant child!Attached Files:
