Hello,
I am ready to pull the trigger on a company and am running into conundrum.
I am being told by the state of MA that if I obtain my CDL from another state, let's say Indiana for example, I would have to have lived there for 2 years before I can transfer my license without testing in MA.
The company I am going with is telling me that the info is uploaded into a federal database and then it would be an auto transfer to MA. The registry in MA is telling me no.
Has anyone here who lives in MA dealt with this and what was the result?
Thank you very much!!!!!![]()

Test out in Massachusetts. Otherwise they WILL downgrade it to operators without 2 years in other state with verifiable experience via written verification from previous employers .

I honestly thought that 2 year thing was bull till I actually looked at the State website. It is bull to me to require 2 years experience before they will allow a simple transfer from another state. This is another reason it is getting harder and harder for me to defend the state issue of CDLs now. If however I was just starting out and lived in that state I would attempt to take school there and test out.
morpheus Thanks this. -

Thank you to all. I finally got the proper answer. Turns out I was not asking the proper question.
turns out that the carrier I am looking at has you come with your MA permit and nothing gets switched over their state. The data is uploaded and then when I return to MA they will give me my CDL A without a retest.
I was able to confirm this today at the RMV before taking my permit, haz mat, combo, and air brake test.
Thanks again to all.
