Several companies will hire you with that long gap in driving. Submit some applications online and then follow with a phone call and say, "I'm checking on my job application." This way, when you do call, they can pull up your application on the computer screen and get right to the interview.
Ignore what the websites have about recent driving experience because many companies are bending their own hiring criteria for high quality applicants. They're hiring drivers that have been off the road up to 20 years even though the website might have "must have driven within the last 5 yrs." or something like that.

    Make a clear mission statement.

What kind of position are you looking for? Local, OTR, Regional, Seasonal, etc.

What field are you wanting to get in to? Reefer, Flatbed, Tanker, etc.

What is it you want out of getting back behind the wheel? Are you running away, need money, want a new challenge, miss the Flying J? What are you really looking to get out of using your CDL?

What are your "Hell noes" and "Hell Yeses"?

Please write a 1000 word essay using Chicago style and make sure it is double spaced with a cover page. We'll try to get it graded by the end of the semester.

Seriously, though, we kind of need some of that information to help you with advice.

I heard of a small outfit in Fresno; Youngs Transport.
Don't know if the company is any good or not. One of their drivers said he runs to Florida a lot, but you never know!

In that case. He doesn't need a truck. He needs a Psychiatrist.
