Made it to Receiver at 2300est. They are going to try to work me in. But more then likely I don't plan on being empty till 2200 tomorrow. Got a Pre-plan on my way here. Looks like I'll be home right on time here goes.

Loaded miles 759 Empty miles 63

Pick up Pilgrims Pride 12/20/12 0200 Athens, GA
Deliver Pilgrims pride distribution. 12/22/12 No apt time. Both are drop and hooks. Pittsburg, TX

I'll drop and hook in Pittsburg,TX get an empty and dead head to OKC.

Don't think I been to the Athens plant so might still go down to the blue beacon and get trailer washed out just in case they don't have a trailer washout place there. Time for some shut eye. G night and have a blessed day tomorrow.

Was unloaded by 0130 EST. So it was only 2330 mountain time. Was thinking about transfloing load by midnight which was attainable. Truck stop was only 15 miles down the road right next to where I was getting trailer washout, but adding 900 miles to 3100 would have gave uncle sam too much of my cash. So I went ahead with trailer washout first. Transfloed load after that since I'm only going to have the Athens, Ga to Pittsburg, TX trip on next weeks check, and that would at least allow proper amount of child support to be taken out. Might even see if I can run local load while I'm there if time permits. Made it Athens was going to hook and book. Had planned out a place to park on my way back, but there was a better route to take so I'm going to take my 8 hour break here. Only had about an hour and some change left to drive. Didn't want to take my chances on the back road. Nite nite or Goooood morning have a blessed day.

Well after the Monsoon and the getting fuel at the Pilot at exit 16 on 285. Which I never want to do again. Lost some time, but made it to the J in Jackson, MS. I could do my 2 hour sleeper birth and drive another 3 hours. Don't think that would be a good idea to to parking issues. So think I'll take the full 10. Should give me enough time to drop load and make it home without having to stop. Might still get up and see how much drive time I have in 8 hours. Was trying to get home to take care of some business, but don't think I'll make it in time. Was hoping to be there between 3pm and 4pm. But looks like I might not get there till 5. Oh well hope all had a great day. Time for some shut eye. G night and God bless.

Yee Haw maw. Knocked out the Pittsburg, TX load. Hooked and booked to an empty now I'm sitting at the J waiting for the wifey to come get me. 23 minutes left on the clock. A nice 8.2 mpg. Amazing what you get when you empty.

We have went again from coast to coast this go round again. Only a few states that I haven't hit in this 5 or so weeks that I have been out. Well Hopefully will have a load next Thursday and we will see if we can't do it again. Thank you for traveling with me. May you all have a wonderful and blessed Holiday. I'm going to Texas in the personal vehicle to see my kin folk so I'll still be on the road doing the Okie City to San Antonio to Houston triangle. Remember Jesus is the reason for the season. If you don't know him personally I pray that the heavenly Father bless you with the most awesome gift you can receive. He is the Truth and the Life. God bless, be safe and may you be rolling with Dino in a few days. We back quiet.

I have a couple of probably stupid/already answered questions:

    1. Is trip planning OJT or am I expected to know this coming out of school?
    2. Are there any websites that show how to do this step by step? I see that most of you use a combination of sites to come up with the miles, drive time, etc. The thread is great but trying to supplement my learning through it is hard because I have to keep jumping back and forth...

Most trip planning is OJT. You do the best you can to plan out where you want to end up. But you have to take into consideration how big the truck stops or rest area's that you want to end your day at. An accident or road construction or a shipper or receiver can mess up your plans real quick. I'm not like some people who can say they know where they are going to stop before they begin. I have an Idea, but I try not to let little bumps in the road ruin my plan.

People who have experience know which truck stops fill up quick and those who have plenty of parking late at night. Those things help. This is why I said that people can put their loads on here and some people who know that route may be able to help you in your trip planning. Some roads on the map may look like 2 lane roads but they could be 4 lane roads with very few traffic lights which can save you time. It all comes with time. Just like backing. This is also why I post my loads because if you wanted too. In your spare time you could plan out the way you would do my trips. To give you a little more practice.

As far as websites who do step by step. I'm not sure. But maybe someone who is reading this thread can help you with that. Trip planning effects your cash. So this is one thing you want to get down pretty quick. So you can have fleet managers knowing you are a go getter, and they will keep you rolling to the best of their ability.

It also helps to know what type of logs you are running. If you are on E log you have to be pretty good with your time management, because you can shoot yourself in the foot. Paper logs you have wiggle room, but that can get you in trouble. So I wouldn't suggest you use it. Just take your time. Start out with a good estimate. Like I want to be 500 miles in 10-11 hours. Those Disto-maps which have the circular wheel helped me a lot. And Old school counting the mile markers and the little numbers on the map also helped before I had google maps. So just find a plan that works for you.

http://www.driveforjbs.com/ This page probably will help you with your questions on hiring area. I will say you might go past their running lanes. Had a friend who was on West Regional and He was taking a load to Atlanta. I also hear lots of complaints with miles on regional fleets, but I have always heard that with all companies I have worked with who have regional fleets. I think that's why they pay you more. I do think the midwest fleet goes all the way to PA lots of Chicago, Green,Bay and Plainwell Michigan loads.
