I took the worksteps physical(which is what most of these places use) on Monday. The hardest part is probably the dead lift tests. You need to dead lift a box with increasing amount of weight about 6 times. There were some beat up older looking guys there who were able to do it though.

If your cardio is REALLY bad you will want to focus on that. They do a heart rate recovery test where you step up and down off a platform for 3 minutes, rest for 1 minute and they take your heart rate. But if you can run 8 minute miles you really have nothing to worry about. Seriously, there are some out of shape people out here.

For a truck driving position they had me climb in and out of a (really high by today's standards) truck cab 5 times.

Not sure if this link will work but this video is really helpful for knowing what to expect(some of the stuff varies depending on the position applied for): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvIDWMxzbZM

Never had to do any of those tests and haven't heard of any company out here doing them. What company are you hiring on to?

DOT hours are a cookie cutter one size fits all not necessarily the most a man can work without killing himself. I work 16 to 18 hours a day 7 days a week and I'm doing just fine.

this country was built on hard work and sacrifice. That is the only way you are going to make it in life unless of course you get a big inheritance , win the lottery, or marry a millionaire LOL

I know a company in Canadian that uses off duty well site like its going out of style. We did the same thing in oklahoma.

im smart enough to go to sleep when I need to. I do not need big brother telling me when I can work. Don't make laws that tell the idiots that can't drive in the first place how to run and apply them to me.

besides, oil security is a national security issue and us oilfield workers take that seriously and are not afraid to go above the 70 hours to benefit this country and ourselves.

the reason this boom is able to go as fast as it is is from the dedication to all those out in the patch, drivers and non drivers

Rofl...got the steel toes already and I do LTL right now in addition to strength training and cardio. I know it'll be different but I'm not afraid of hard work and sweat.

Anyone know where a good place to lease a truck on in the oil patch? It's an older truck (1997) but it's a good one. Flat top but doesn't have P.T.O. I can install one of those. I have lots of experience with chemicals and fuel hauling. I would like to haul crude from tank farms to an injection site or refinery. I'm not real crazy about those lease roads. I've seen some of those up here in the panhandle and they can be treacherous. Oh by the way, I'm not a greenhorn. I've been driving for 21 years. Perfect driving record, even got a TWIC card. Any help would be appreciated. Lots of ads on Craigslist and others just don't know which of these are telling the truth. I know, its hard to believe that recruiters will lie!!!

With an older truck is going to be tough. If you got your own trailer it would be easier

Thanks. Just looked at the Trimac website. They take trucks as old as 1997 so I should be fine. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they offer.

Here is what a O/O for Cricle K had to say "If you work for these guys you will go bankrupt! They suck in you in with lies then DO NOT pay you. You will work 45 days then you get no pay. At that point they hope you get angry and walk away."

Sound like a bunch to stay away from. By the way, had a buddy who was a company driver for them and they could not keep him working either so not sure why some would recommend this bunch to another O/O unless they just like to screw with people. Not me, I'm tired of seeing people blow smoke. If someone asks for help then help, don't send them into a snake's den!
