I know less about cb's than I do the job. I was curious if this radio is worth keeping and using. I dont need any fancy features like bluetooth capabilities, but I do want to sound good. I tried it out and it worked well at first. I'm thinking it needs a little work. Before I spend to have it opened up, I wanted to knoiw if it is worth the effort.
Also it has a 5-pin mic, do they make adapters so I could put on a newer mic?
thanks 4 the help

40 ch radios are so cheap it makes no sence ....... -
No it isn't worth putting any any money in. I agree with WA4GCH. Go buy a 40 channel. Also most shops won't work on a 23 channel set.
-
No matter what you hear you cannot convert a 23 into a 40.
That said .....
Hygain made a 40 ch cybernet chassies that was a 40 that was sold as a 23 ch using a 23 ch switch until the new ones open up in 1977. TO CONVERT it you had to mail it back to them and they would change the switch it was approved as both a 23 and 40 by the FCC.
Hygain is long out of the radio market bought by MFJ and making rotors and antennas now.
SO ....
Here we are 33 years later and people are still playing with them ... and you can buy a NEW 40 ch for $39. It makes as much sence as buying a UGO and putting $10,000 in repairs in it .....
