Same for me. TQL and CHRobinson are not at all good companies but they will work with new authorities and if you negotiate decent rates they can get you past the 6 month or so period where you'll feel more comfortable and greatly expand your broker base.

I know lots, well MOST people here are going to say that advice is crazy but it worked for me. I can't imagine running for them any more but I made a lot of money with those 2 carriers the first 6 months and they were happy to have me.

What is it about chrobinson that makes you say they are not a good company. I don't guess I know who tql is.

I have issues with CHRobinson from FFE days on the west coast in particular.

One rule i have for msyelf driving. No one calls my #### cell for anything. Particularly bosses or brokers. If the broker wants to know where I am etc they check my satellite. It's not that hard. 5 #### minutes. Not even that.

Ive pulled battery out of my old time cell then. Today I use a APP on my andriod to block and deny calls and fail to ring on those.

I , personally wouldn’t ever rent a Truck.unless, under a load, ( exact thing happened to me, 12 yrs ago.). Truck was in shop 8 days. Rented Truck, delivered, 500 miles and back, rented a car went home for 5 days, 500 miles and back. Then back to work. Most repairs can be scheduled, if you’d on top of what needs to be done. Doesn’t mean you have to run into nearest shop with an open wallet. Doing minor repairs, on your own, When time is available. Other things, planning the repair enroute, or at home. Beware of the Shop, many will have no problem, robbing you blind. They will take your Truck apart, then tell you, we can’t put it back together, parts aren’t available till Monday. You must be diligent communicating with the Shop, making it clear, youre not able to be held up.Dont take it apart if you can’t put it back together. Best to find trustworthy Mechanics.Worth every penny, always tip them, when they save you money. They will appreciate it. Build good relationships with them, you never know when you’ll be in a jam, and need their help. When the Trucks down, and bills are due. It’s a double whammy,That’s when you do things, whatever? If that too costs money, home repair or vacation, triple whammy. That’s why I would keep as much as possible for emergencies.Work while it’s running good. Get ahead if possible. Biggest problem I see, are repairs, always hoping to get some relief, only to have more repairs.Chasing a Truck with savings.Bottom line ends in disaster, usually a newer Truck, then soon same thing. The Truck should be able to support itself, including maintenance, $1000-$1200 per mo. Out of pocket. And a payment of $1000-$1500 per mo., and provide a decent paycheck, It’s hard to pay as you go, and build an emergency fund. As cost of repairs can add up quick. Some things have to wait. Unless it’s a safety issue.Otherwise, it’s not worth it to Own one. I’ve been under funded for 23 yrs. by most people’s standards. Always make it one way or another. As long as I’m still earning a living. If not, time to park it. Drive for someone else. I read it as, you budgeted for $1000 a mo pymt. $ 15000 dn. I unlike most, would put little as possible dn. Keeping more for emergencies. If you meant buying a $15000 Truck, cash.Beware of the wore out money pit, costing more to run, than a better Truck, at $1500 mo. Pymt. Sounds like your monthly bills are low, it would be hard to fail. But the idea is to make more than a Company Driver, Not always so easy. A lot to think about, constantly, to avoid costly mistakes. Most failures are because it’s a pita, sometimes. They throw in the towel. Too much trouble.

Yes my thoughts on it. I need the business to cover my family all year regardless if I work 6 months or 12
The insurance health and tractor are the harder ones to estimate so I put 12000 a year for both till I know
My carrier that I lease to may have discounts and what not

The health insurance, due to most cost efficient policies having a high deductible, has to be estimated, to include premiums, and possible out of pocket expenses. I used to pay a higher premium, but had a low deductible, to keep it as fixed of a cost as possible. Nowadays, it’s not worth it. Our Total annual cost has always been $12000 roughly, for years now. That includes every aspirin etc. My wife keeps a good file on everything, Premiums, and out of pocket paid, seperated, As each has different percentages for deductions, I believe.Best to be covered, The one time you need it, you’ll be glad you have it. avoiding bankruptcy. Truck ins. Through a Carrier, not too bad. Taken out of settlement, usually.

When we had insurance medical deductable was 10,000 flat.

You can almost run that in a very intense ER visit. Back in 2014, my stomach failed in the body and someone needed to shoot me in the head to stop that fire raging down there. 8400 dollars incurred in billing in 3 hours and change. Approximately a half liter of blood drawn for 300+ seperate tests in Dallas priority by helicopter from the roof then plane. Two People who are experts in Math incurred 1000 dollars each to work out walls of math problems to resolve some of these tests. That takes hours.

At that point we changed the insurance situation and hoped the stomach did not fail like that again.

That's nothing to the enormous billing in the last 8 months alone. I had two ER visits considered acute combined with life threatening rating and 20 people were waiting for me when EMT carted me in there. It did not take long for them to fix me right up proper. 4000 dollars 2 hours. Twice.

Surgery. 60,000 paid so far. my share about 2000 with 1000 up in the air. The actual balance in the last 14 months billed to insurance exceeds 100,000. So they negotiated it down. 30,000 of that represents the costs retail of new replacement parts inside my body in several locations. With more coming.

With insurance like that, Ive already exceeded 6000 cash out at that point costs and treatments are free the remainder of the year even if its 2 million. Who knows.

I see, you’re looking for a $15 k used Truck. Planning on keeping only 1 yr is a gamble. It may cost you a lot of $$$ The first year. Forcing you to keep it longer, trying to get your money out of it. I would consider, Spending a little more, for a nicer older Truck, if that’s what you want. $750 a mo. Pymt. for the right Truck, might be a better choice, worth it if the Truck is in good shape. Minimum dn pymt. Interest under 10%. Keeping every extra penny for emergencies. If all goes well, pay extra, or pay off entirely. If all goes bad, you’ve minimized your losses. Keeping cash on hand, sometimes can mean the difference, between losing everything,Also keeps the stress level lower. That’s my backwards way of doing things. Simply because, I need x amount of income, regardless of circumstances. Single folks, with no bills, different story. With a Family to support, income, health ins. And cash on hand, top priority.

Exactly, that’s why “Total out of pocket” is the important number, when shopping policies.. Prices/ deductibles vary so much. I bought the lowest premium policy, higher deductible, either way it’s still cheaper overall. Jan 1 st wife was in hospital, February, Myself. Just got all old bills paid. Now new ones rolling in. $8000 total. Doesn’t matter, now, deductibles are met. No way around it. Without it, I’d owe $100 k +, and be contemplating bankruptcy. Already done that, one time, ( one time too many) that’s no fun at all. Ain’t going there again, Too old to recover. Bottom line, got to cover yourself, one way or another.

I have been contemplating BK for about 12 years now.

I'll leave off the details, but I will testify that God pours his blessings upon those who hold true to him regardless of what the world demands.

The one thing that has prevented me from BK is eating judgements. Ive told creditors to f-off and two had lost in court. It's a simple matter to remind them it's illegal to sue a person who has already paid into disability from a lifetime of wages (And one of three other possible defenses by type of income) and possibly open them up to a counter suit from me due to what I must do until the Courthouse is pleased to disposed of the case entirely.

BK is not worth it. Uncle Sam will assign someone to take the check and tell me how I should eat, live and so on like mommy dearest and you are 6 years old. Not acceptable. I don't mind the bills too much most everyone has tolerated my good faith payments. If you are a billion dollar hospital and I need 3 years to pay you 3000 dollars then so be it. It's not so bad.

But there has to be a point at which enough is quite enough. Im about there. Thats why I am still contemplating the surgeries. One of which is pretty dangerous. Would it be better to let nature take it's course and go out quietly when it's proper time? Or do I cheat death a few decades on money I do not have. Not too ethical is it?
